We will be bringing home our first B (hopefully thats the right way to say Basenji in the forum) on Saturday morning. She is 1 yr old and she was just surrendered at a no kill shelter here in Wisconsin. We dont have any other dogs but fell in love (cautiously after browsing the forums) with Chloe (soon to be Mowgli, fingers crossed). I have found some amazing help already from a lady associated with the Southwestern Wisconsin Basenji Club, but am always looking for more advise. Any suggestions are welcomed. Thanks all. I think we will see (chat) a lot with each other.

I saw her on petfinder through another thread. She is a very good looking girl. Make it a point to give her treats whenever you catch her being good. My dogs get lots of treats! They learn quickly behaving is fun.

She has been fixed. As for the falconi, I dont think any of the basenjis that I have have every been tested for it.

as for the country hounds and hearts place. I went by the address listed on the site and it appears that no one has been there for a while. Very scary looking place.. overgrown, strange smell, fence pieced together with kennel/crate doors, vacant car.

I called the number and it was disconnected and I tried a second number and have been waiting for over a week for someone to call back.

We are going to give it the college try to get her "normal" but I want to make sure that I am not doing her a dis-service. I have time before we are slated to move but I also want to make sure that she would be happy.

I know deep down that I have not been a great owner to her but I love her very much and don't want to see her harmed in any way.

I was struck by the fact that your Bernese lived to be 20 years old! Wow! I know they have had concerns with cancer in the breed, and very few of them live that long. How wonderful for you that you got to have her for that long.
