    We had 2 inches of snow last year and Abbey was fascinated by it but she was terrified of the snowman our neighbors made! Very suspicious of him.

    I live in Maine - all 3 of mine love the snow. Mine go au naturale - they hate to wear clothes so I just limit their time out in the elements.

    Reminds me of when I took AJ across the Puget Sound on the ferry…when we returned to Seattle, it was after dusk. The fireplugs they have in that area look like dwarves with big hats on in the dark. AJ would give each one the widest berth he possibly could and not burrow under the fence. :eek: It was the first time I'd ever seen a dog afraid of a fireplug. :D

    We don't get snow here but Buddy jumps when we walk by all the fake Christmas deer and animals in people's front yards. The funniest is the air controlled Grinch on someone's front lawn that when the air lets in and out it slides in and out of a chimney. He stands there and stares at it.

    We don't get snow here but Buddy jumps when we walk by all the fake Christmas deer and animals in people's front yards.

    Both Otis and Moses (podengo donkey, like our friends call him) go crazy when they see those white wire framed deers..I mean crazy, and I am looking like a total idiot of the neighborhood trying to convince them to "leave it" and move on…good luck..
    So glad to hear that Buddy is doing the same thing.

    Yep, the white wired ones. They must of had a big sale on them. The yards here are full of those one's that have the air pumped into them, they look like miniature Macy's Day Parade balloons.

    I say this just to see if it bites me but it's not as bad here as it was when I grew up. We could get snow any were from Thanksgiving on but usually right after Christmas. We would not see ground again until spring day's never warm enough and then more snow I just would hate snow and winter. At least now we get snow but it is usually gone in a day or two no more than a week. Who knows maybe one day all of you out there can have our weather and we can yours LOL..

    ..and I moved here from Sweden to get away from the snow…

    We've had barely a dusting here but its been cold enough to keep it on the grass. Mr. Annoyance is acting like its "rutting season". In, out, in, out. If I don't jump up to let him out he proceeds to pull at the blanket over my feet, or worse yet, bills/mail on the coffee table (much like teachers, bill collectors won't believe "the dog ate my check"). It's kinda fun though 'cause he's also just more playful in general right now. A couple more weeks and he'll probably hate the cold and snow like every other self respecting Basenji is supposed to….:D Silly Basenjis...don't they know their rep???:)

    For what it's worth, I have noted that in households with a strong human leader/boss/alpha/disciplinarian (pick one!) there are less squabbles among dogs, at least when the human is present. My neighbour has Rotties, had two bitches that hated each other and would fight, but they didn't do it when she was around. She did have to be careful that they could not get together in her absence. ;) Interesting anecdote: If my mare is bothering my old gelding and I notice it, I can break it up by yelling at her out the window! Guess I am "alpha" in that herd.

    Hi Dawn, my names Colleen and i'm from Melbourne! I'm really interested to hear peoples thoughts on this as my 6 almost 7 month old male basenji who isnt desex as yet is displaying quite a lot of seemingly random aggression toward my other dog who he lives with. Food is the main trigger, but more and more i think it's his testosterone really kicking in, i think hes trying to test out my other dog too see how much he can get away with and how much he can boss him around. Its making life a bit edgy for myself and my dog who cops the outbursts! I'm a vet nurse and it is well know that desexing a male will definitely drop hormone levels significantly and therefore any hormonal aggression along with it. It usually calms them and dog/territorial related aggression can be helped by neutering. I think that if you really want to keep Cougar the best way to go is to desex him. If it becomes unbearable, then its not going to harm anyone by getting him desexed. And to be honest i think the breeder should think twice about breeding from a basenji who has bitten people… but basenjis will be basenjis. No doubt desexing will help, but no doubt the aggression wont be 'cured'... i think then you need to do your bit by training him in conjunction. Best of luck, sounds like we both need it!

    WOW!!!..Words to live by!! I commend you for all the effort it sounds like you've put into your dogs. I wish people were more like you…and your mantra should be placed on every B owner's refrigerator door :D :D It's all about knowing your dog & KNOWING their limitations. Respect is key and so is a no tolerance policy. At least that's how it is at our house! :) BTW-I went to a Basenji Fun Match...and A LOT of B's are bitchy snarky little fur balls. Rest assured yours are not the exception. Mine are exactly the same way but we work with them every day on this!

    @elena86: Senji is 11 years old and was "fixed" at 6 months. He never really humped anyone, but first thing in the morning after he wakes up, he has his morning "boner". He just kind of air humps for a few seconds and then licks the exposed part of his penis. Squiggy does this too, I have never heard of it. He doesnt "expose" him self, but he does look around with a look that says "huh? what is going on?" or it could be "darn it, who woke me up?" he doesnt do it all the time, but when he does it is so funny. Air humping :p

    I stopped a little hassle between my Basenjis the other night and was bitten. Yikes, those are sharp little teeth. I would hate to see a child bitten by any dog. Young children and dogs, not just Basenjis, need to be supervised; children should be taught respect for animals. I've seen many lovely pets 'go away' or be put down because one bit a child who was teasing or being cruel. Actually, in my opinion teasing is being cruel. I think children need a "time out" when they play too rough with animals, too.
