$15 http://www.offa.org/dnaappbw.pdf I think it may just be that I spend an inordinate amount of time on the OFA site.

Welcome to the forum, sorry to hear your Dog isn't well. Perhaps something has irritated her intestines and caused the blood or maybe an infection. Has she has any sharp bones or something like that.

That picture looks exactly like our Ella. My wife has been saying the last several days how "gingery" her back has been getting. And a month or so ago the area behind her ears became extremely light colored.

@AC~Akeyla: We will be getting Akeyla spayed next Friday. I know that B's need to be put asleep like a sighthound. I was curious if something bad could happen if the were not put to sleep in that particular way? And also if vets know about the special way? Discuss it with your Vet, that is the best thing you can do… and by all means have pre blood work done... that way you have a base line if (and that is a really big "if") something were to happen or she seemed to be having a reaction.... Here is a thread on the forum about Anesthesia http://www.basenjiforums.com/showthread.php?t=6046

I know it has been posted before but for the questions she asked. R/W x B/W, you can get a Blacks, Reds, and Tris if both parents carry the tri gene. R/W x R/W, you can get Reds or Tris. If there is no brindle (or trindle) parent then there cannot be brindles unless a parent is a B/W with a Brindle parent.

Being prepared with something like an E-Collar, Bite Collar, or homemade collar "BEFORE" they come home from surgery is a good idea too…. Then you are not running around trying to decided what to do....

Wow that is fast Dan, but either way I can wait 3-4 weeks, maybe even 5 ..LOL. His parents are both clear, I am doingthis for peace of mind as well as one more dog tested theory..the more in the system the better.

I would give iot to them at both feeds and maybe start with a teaspoon, and if it doesn't seem to work great up the serving size to tablespoon. I think if I remember right, that it goes three teaspoons to 1 tablespoon, so if you want you could add a teaspoon until you are ath the tablespoon size..makes sense I hope

@Kananga: Higher quality food will certainly make the B happier. :) I agree… while it might not solve all problems .... in the end a better quality food will cost you less in the end.. and certainly make your pet healthier

Bookworm, just a hint, our petco and petsmart down here in Texas will take back food even if it has been opened, so if somethings doesn't work out you might be able to return it.

@MacPack: I would bathe her with a soothing non-irritating soap for starters. She may have contacted plants that are causing the itching and washing may help. HOpefully you can get some benadryl in the morning if she is still itching. When any of ours get a flea, they act like that so if you have a flea comb, I would try that as well. Good luck! yes flea combs do help with the itching. I have found the ones from JW to be pretty good

Typically I have also advised those with dogs that 'appear' to have fanconi but are not basenjis or are mixes - to also have their vet fax the labs to Steve Gontos - he seems to have a handle on the chemistry of the disease in general that is helpful to those no B people

My OJ had excessive PPM to the point you could see with the naked eye, in his litter, he had two that had total sheeting over one eye and the other had excessive PPM as he did. So he would have never CERF'ed. And PPM runs in his pedigree. This was one of the reasons he was never bred. However, all that said if this was the only reason that I decided not to use him, things might have been different. As breeders not everything is going to be perfect. In the end we all need to decide what we can and can not live with in doing a breeding. And I also agree, the more information you have to begin with, the better informed decision you can make for breeding. Not everyone is going to think the same on what is or is not important…
