As far as BYB I am also 100%, no, make that a 1000% against it, and even tried starting a campaign where I live against them, after my almost-mistake last year. I have never considered myself a BYB, and NEVER will produce unpapered dogs just because I feel like it.
Having papers is not the test for BYB.
The stud is a multi champion dog with multi titles and his owner/breeder has been breeding/judging/showing for over 35 years. I would not EVER breed if I was not 100% sure that it was a good fit and a potential of good pups. I intend to keep one and show it. If you have any further questions you can contact Terri Gavaletz of BushBabies and ask her. She thinks Lana is a VERY nice dog and she should have EXCEPTIONAL quality puppies. So, yeah, you couldn't be farther from the truth. .. Obviously you have not read all of my posts. Not to sound bitchy but I am kinda disappointed at your response, as I am doing absolutely everything I can and then some to make sure that the puppies are healthy, happy and only go to great homes. I also learned a lot since some of those other posts too…
I am sorry you are disappointed in my response. While I am glad you found a titled stud, and I am very glad you consider yourself responsible for pups you produce, and it is WONDERFUL you put such effort into health testing… and yes, the evaluation of a responsible stud owner is good, the disappointing part to ME is that instead of getting out there with her and showing HER, and proving she is worthy of being bred, you bred first. I also don't want to sound bitchy, because honestly, you are doing incredible compared to most people who are determined to breed unproven dogs. But I do hope you resolve not to breed her again until you point her at least. It helps give those puppies you are producing a more legit stand.
And just so you know, my bitch had titles in every generation for 5 generations, and I put a championship on her. And then I spayed her.
And when I wanted to get into Rottweilers (sadly long before the internet), I spent TWO YEARS studying Rottweiler genetics, talking to mentors, studying dog genetics in general, going to shows. And I still made so many mistakes. So please don't let my kevetching bother you. I have no doubt you intend to do things right... you have demonstrated it already.
I am just not the person to pretend you did it all the right way and shouldn't have crossed a few more t's and dotted a few more i's. A seasoned breeder with years in a breed can evaluate a pedigree and their animals and may, for a variety of reasons, not title a dog before breeding.
But newbies, well we need to prove our metal first or risk snarky people like me calling us on it. I had my bitch evaluated by 3 breeders and TWO judges, and looking back I will always regret not titling her first. Again, before the internet, before I knew better. I am just pointing out we all make errors and I am far from perfect. And I got crucified generations later, even with my line at Westminster and invitationals. And you know what, I look them in the eye and say "You are right. I messed up." And move on.
So don't let it get to you! You'll be fine. One person (me) having a negative opinion isn't worth being upset over. You have many good folks here to balance cranky me. I found lovely people like Jan Williams and Robyn who treated us with respect and welcome. Basenjis are a good group to be welcomed and mentored.
And yes, your pregnant bitch looks wonderfully preggo and I can't wait to see the pics!.
