What best for puppy food?

    I am looking to put my new pup on Orijen. Would like to have him on high protein low carb diet. Any suggestions?

    i feed orijen to my bulldogge , i would think high protein food is good for any high energy breed. But best to try it and see how your pup does on it.

    Orijen is an excellent food, you may need to mix it at first with whatever he has been eating, then slowly change the ratio. There are a lot of excellent foods available now, thankfully, so if one doesn't agree with your dog, there are other options to try.

    We have so far found that EVO is the best food out there. As soon as the Bs adjusted to it we got better behavior, better energy, and better weights. My male was always too skiny he is now muscular and a good weight. Our female was always too hefty, she is now skinier and more active.

    Hope ths helps. The transition will be hard….I did half a hand full at first for a pup that ate 3 cups a day. Go slow. Use Pepto Bismol if you have to (the pills not the liquid you will have a pink dog if you do)

    One of the reasons that I rotate the food is that then you really do not have to change slowly or at least that is what I find. I change every three months to a different food going between Wellness, California Natural, EVO, Fromms, etc… you get the picture. That way they are used to constant change (also adding in veggies and fruits both raw and steamed along with yams, etc).

    If I am on the road and need food for the B's then I never have to worry that I will not be able to find what I am feeding them at present... as they are used to change...

    Im not sure what DEFRA is but I read somewhere that the quarantine and all that had been lifted in great Britain… Not sure.. Anyway, I'm not sure if they do.. But dogs are imported into Brittain all the time, especially show dogs, I don't think it would be tool difficult. cheers happy New Year!

    @Fran… aw :) Yeah, I can't wait to experience being dogpiled by the whole litter :) @Lisa; I don't plan on showing, but I'm sure my pup and I will visit shows often. I like the environment and the certian level of "Crazy" that I get to behold at dog shows, but I don't have the time to finish a dog, so I'd be doing the pup a dishonor by even attempting to get him show-ready. Kyle and Steve have remarked that they're going to make a handler out of me, though... so who knows! lol

    The more exercise you can give the dog, the better she will be. Walk her at least an hr 2 times a day… A basic obedience class is also required to help her learn her manners. Good luck.

    Sophie is one who definately thinks that the standard reads "a goof with strangers". She loves meeting and greeting people and dogs though she has learned how to be dog appropriate and is not a push over. She wags her tail so much it is no wonder is is only a loose single curl, how could it be anything else with it in constant motion. We do a lot to socialize all of our pups so they are outgoing and confident but there is a definate distinction between some of our pups who would probably be considered "Aloof" though they are friendly and like attention from strangers, they always make you feel like you are attending court for royalty and Sophie whose dream job would probably be a greeter for WalMart.
