Hello!

Show Off Your Dog
  • Stumbled onto this site today and thought I'd pop in and show off my best gal, Greta Blue! She's basenji/shar pei mix. I'd have never thought Shar Pei, but friends with allergies to SP fur say she definitely has SP!!

Let me know what you all think!

  • I am assuming that the sire was a Basenji and the mother a Shar pei, is that correct? A very interesting mix!!!

  • Welcome to the forum. Interesting mix. If you hadn't said the mix I would not have guessed it. Anyway very nice looking dog! The Shar Pei's can all look quite different

This one has a similarity in the body.

  • hi Barb - welcome to the forum. Greta Blue is sweet, no matter what she is mixed with. I love the picture of her with the cat. She is obviously quite the lover.

Dan, I definitely see the Shar-pei in that picture. Great looking dog - I love the little curled-over Shar-pei ears.

  • no clue…she's a rescue adopted @ 3 months old.

the very night i brought her home she started coughing. long story short - she had a nasty case of distemper with the vet telling me she had <30% chance of survival. i literally willed her to live, spoon feeding her chicken and rice for 3 months. she coughed for over a year even after she was well, and she was nicknamed "the incredible coughing dog". 5 years later, she's fit as a fiddle!

funny thing happened to her - for the first 2 years, she never barked (typical basenji). a friend with a border collie started staying with me and Rosie would bark at all the dogs/people walking past the house. Lo & behold, Greta B 'learned' to bark! now i can't shut her up!

  • Thank you both Dan & Fran!

I'd have never known she was Shar Pei either…although when she was a baby, she had tons of wrinkles, but as she grew, she grew into the wrinkles. Now she has them only on the top of her head. But the clincher to the Shar Pei is the allergies several people have commented on who are allergic to their fur :o.

Nice job sticking with her and getting her back to health!! LOL, sorry she didn't quite carry on the barkless trait.:D

Zoni is so cute…she is quite the chatterbox! :D:D Liyah will sing when I come home and greets me, she'll sing for her supper or sing if she wants one of the adults to play with her. She does talk constantly to Brando if they are playing and he has something she wants...but it isn't the type of song that Zoni is doing. She definitely sings, not as often as that. Love it...really cute!!:D:D:D

@Andrew: How cute. Our cats do that. Heh heh heh you can't get me, so I'm just going to sit here & look at you. That cat is so mocking your dog. A lot of cats from the neighbourhood follow Mirtillo.. It's really weird. There is even a cat who occasionally sits in front of our window… watching the B..
