@sanjibasenji Thanks for the article on Dog Genome Project - I found it very interesting. I was trying to figure out the interactive Genome wheel. It has the basenji closely related to the Azawakh and rat terrier but I’m still trying to figure out the first wheel which has the basenji listed w/ black/grey starting point. As far as the PBS Dog Tales video - it’s very interesting - it’s season 47 episode 2 - I highly recommend you watch the whole thing (54 minutes).

The golden I used to have did similar things w/her ears/eyes when I approached w/a leash. It was a habit formed from years of me sliding a new collar on with the leash attached. She'd squint and pull her ears back in anticipation of the collar being slid over her head. The smile? I never got that.

Generally, Jack is on his tie out on a nice flat yard, far away from any trees, and I am either outside with him, or watching through the window as I wash dishes. This was just a one time occasion with a retractable leash. We also tried tying him out with a clothesline, while we sat nearby having a couple of cold ones, and he almost chewed through that as well! :-)
