It must of been nice growing up with them, I,m wondering if you as a child ever used them as a scapegoat to anything you may have done, as they are always getting into something they would be handy to have around as a kid. Were you thinking of getting one yourself or does your experience with them put you off owning your own? I would say you would have enough experience as a child to be able to get the best out of one. You and your husband were both right it was a Shiba and it was a Basenji, wonder what it actually looked like as a mix, interesting. Looking forward to your stories as my boy is only 1 we have yet to write an interesting one(am I asking for trouble or what!).
Okay, marrow bones. I used to always give but had one very aggressive chewer. The vet showed me the actual cracks in her teeth! The other dogs were fine, btw. But every once in a while, shine a flashlight on the teeth and look for cracks. I check their teeth, but I never saw the cracks til she put actual light on them.
I understand completely. Thank you so much for your advice. I have a couple weeks… If he is Fanconi clear, or carrier I will be happy. He wont have it... Also the parents pedigree... I will decide soon, but if you guys want I can still send pictures... she has been sending me pics of him getting older... Thanks again you guys.
I just found this forum. I have had my 2 basenji's for 3 years coming this dec 29th. They are brother/sister. We are located here in peoria, az. They are a handful especially the male who gets into everything that is not nailed down.
We did all the research and new what we were getting into, that why we have 2. A tired basenji is a good banenji. We take them to the "bark park" every weekend. Its their time to meet and greet everyone.
Good luck one your pup..take lots of pictures. We have taken ours to Petsmart for the professional pictures every year. It takes about 1 hour until they get the right shot. My male is very active and moves alot.
Right now the little girl has valley fever we are trying to get her tiger count down, but next year I want to add to our family, (if the male alowes it). lol:)
