I used to have a basenji who would chase a plastic bag I tied to a "wand" around the yard. He seemed really in to the "bunny" so I took him to a couple of lure coursing events in central FL. It was wonderful to see the dogs running and so hard to hold my boy back from joining them. At the end of the day, we were able to do a straight out and back run to see how he would do, and he was great. Not long after, 2 guys that I placed a basenji with rigged up a reversing motor and set up a very small "lure course" in their back yard! There were about 12 of us there with basenjis and we let them chase the bunny one or two at a time. It was great fun. You do have to be careful not to run them too young, or too hard without conditioning. My current basenji gets to run like crazy at the dog park (it's huge and everyone is very impressed at his speed and agility) and at the baseball field (when it's not locked up). Slents: I loved your video! Thanks for posting it. I hope you eventually get to attend a lure coursing event in person - it really is something to see!

@Buddys: Hi Kosuzu! I am replying with just my own experience. I only know a little about the local club I visited. There were no mixed breeds, all sight hounds, and a few hounds, the ridgbacks were real popular in the club, and one either needed papers to prove breed, (i never did get the akc papers promised by the previous owner) or I was told if my boy really looked obvious then he could compete. I am not interested in ribbons or placement really (but running the fastest time is exciting!) First Uzie would go against juniors in a class to ensure no aggression during the run of 750yards. Then go against the others in a duo and trio run. But things won't start up til it gets cooler here in Florida. I have a mini lure courser. It is ok, have to make sure the line doesn't get back washed on the spool though. here is a link, but if you can afford a bigger self winding machine-or get one made….then I think it is better then having to wind it up after each run of 150feet http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z7nqKp3rQ78&NR=1&feature=endscreen There are others out there too: http://wickedcoursing.com/products.html Good Luck! have fun!!! Thanks for the info and the link. I am thinking of getting the Lure Baby from Wicked Coursing. The only thing I have to consider is that the States has 110volt and Australia has 240volt. I think I need some kind of power converter and plug adapter. I will do some more research on that.

@thunderbird8588: Fantastic shots, don't think we have lure coursing in England. Yes, we do, they do it on the greyhound race tracks :D My friend does it with his afghan, i'd love to have a go with Maya sometime!

@Kipawa: The shot with the two of them sharing the stick is magazine worthy. Oh wow! Thanks a lot ;) @MacPack: Thank you! But it's the garden of my parents-in-law. We have to drive 5-10minutes to them. With its 4500 sq.m. it is a Basenji-paradies :D @Buana: Do you plan to visit another show in Germany? You were in Rheinberg, right? We planned to show there, too - but didn't have the time. @TikaLynn: I'm happy, that you like them so much :)

@Kebasmom: I 've sewn clothing - nothing really fancy, kids clothes - and I'm learning to quilt. I wish I had more time…. I have very little time, also. I know how you feel! Maybe we should sew Basenji clothes, LOL!!!:D
