Lure Coursing in Scotland!!

    after our discussions yesterday i have had some success–--the Pedigree Whippet Racing Association holds lure coursing meets in a field next to Blair Drummond Safari Park near Stirling - sounds pretty central for most of us (bout 1.5 hours away for me) - they meet most sundays, and are happy for us to go along - they did say if there are only a couple of us we can get a chance to try out our dogs.

    Also contacted Sue Rose who organises Deerhound lure coursing - she is at Kinross - again she is very happy for us to go along - they have lots of other breeds who turn up and they try to match size weight for coursing.

    Dates to be confirmed - so Basi/Benkura/Lurkis/Noodle i will be in touch!

    It's probably going to be about a 3 hour drive for me, but I'm still up for it. Noticed that there's a Travelodge at Kinross which could come in handy!
    I work in retail, so I don't get a lot of weekend time off, but I'm actually off this Sunday.

    This Sunday is my last free Sunday for quite a while (prob Sept). Stirling is about 80 mins drive and Kinross about 3 hours.

    made a wee mistake - its racing most sundays at Blair Drummond - they are having a lure coursing day in August. But we could have a go at the racing surely?

    There is LC in Columbia Ky the weekend of 17 Nov. there will be practices on the Sat around 3 pm. The next closer would be the Indianapolis area the weekend before that. Most Of us drive 6-12 hours for any lC events in the Midwest

    Normally the clubs have practices after the Saturday trials. Unfortunately none of the clubs in our area have separate practice days. You might also think about going to some of the lira meets for straight run practices. The schedule is at lgra.org

    Yay glad to see some more local interest! As far as training, there is a group called SONG (Sighthounds of North Georgia) that does informal practices once a month or so depending on man power & weather. These practices are a great way to introduce a new dog to the lure. However, for most dogs its an instinctual thing & they don't need much training. Lola & Callie both caught on to it their first time. I just let them both watch other dogs doing it first, then let them go & they did their thing. Website for SONG: http://www.nghounds.info/index_files/Page430.htm It doesn't get updated frequently, but go to the lure coursing practice tab, scroll to the bottom & there are instructions to get on the e-mail list for upcoming practices.     @Sunny: At what age is the best time to start lure coursing ?? And is there a course in oklahoma ?? Ide love to get Sandie into something like that, if she is interested… Sunny, You can start very short practices with puppies but you can't actually enter a trial until a dog is at least a year old. Coursing is available in Oklahoma. Your best bet is to contact Richard Stilwell. Richard and his wife Linda have been involved with lure coursing Basenjis for a long time and they can get you started in your area. Send me a private message for Richard email My best wishes. :)
