Let it snow….

Basenji Talk
  • I saw that there was a string of snow talk going on in the thanksgiving section and thought I'd start one just for snow since it's that time of year. We got our snow here in Colorado as well. Alani is a year but was rescued from a shelter so I'm pretty sure this was the first time she's actually seen it. She was very confused that she wasn't able to smell the ground like she usually does and being picky about where to go potty already….well, it was tough. The whole time we were outside she wanted to sprint around in it but overall doesn't seem to mind it too much.

There's something invigorating about cold snow on little basenji toesies! My Abbey loved all the snow we had last winter (unusual for us) but she was terrified of the neighbors' snow man!!

I agree with Basenji fan, I love our Boomerang tags. Mine are at least 6 years old and still look great. Double sided for more info, they have deep etching and just don't wear out. They have a lifetime guarantee, too. I have a plastic one for me, too, back when I was bike riding a lot, with name, phone number, doc's name and number, etc. Way cheaper than the 'official' human emergency ID tags (I got the red bone shaped plastic for me, stainless steel ones for the dogs)

I'd leave him out for as long as he wants to be out in the snow - but not without a fence yard. As Tanza said, it only takes one car – or one annoyed neighbor -- to take him out, and he won't be adverse to taking on coyotes, so why risk it? Most people seemed to have huskies or malamutes when I grew up in Alaska and they were seldom indoors. They'd even curl up and go to sleep in the snow, while it was snowing, and remain under a blanket of the stuff!

I haven't slept past 5:30 am more than a handful of times in the last year! Our older dog (not a B) hears the neighbor's truck, when he leaves for work, and decides that is when she should go out! Fortunately for me, most of the time (notice I say MOST) both dogs go back to sleep after a quick trip to the yard.

Our Sally Loves it. She runs around like a chicken with her head cut off. It really is cute! She even rides the snow-mobile, or sled with the boys.

@nala121498: In my experience, most dogs get frisky with the wind and snow! Good observation Nala. It is very windy and cold right now. Flurrys are flying and Duke was just outside skipping about with a frisby. He ran back and forth flipping a frisby having a great time. He wanted me to give it a toss, but it is too windy to give it a good whirling toss. So off he went again. He's very frisky. Though snow is pretty, I'm not crazy for it, but I have to say I can't wait to have enough to see Duke play in it. :)
