• This morning, I noticed a TINY bit of blood in Medjai's poo. I was wondering if the next available appointment at the local vet/clinic is ok, or if I should rush like to an emergency vet, and what might cause it. I have not noticed him eating anything he shouldn't or chewing on anything either. He is also acting perfectly normal (for him).

He could just have a little GI thing going on… if he is eating, acting normal, drinking... I would just keep an eye on it... it is not that uncommon to see... at least not in my experience... mine have done that at times...

  • Yeah, I don't think I've seen it yet with Medjai, and would never have noticed it at my parents house, as the dogs just do their stuff in the yard and it gets cleaned up later.

It's good to hear that it probably isn't anything major. It was just a tiny spot about as round as a small pea, but not 3D, just a tiny bit.

  • Again, if all else is normal, I would just consider a little GI thing going on… and just keep an eye on him.... Don't think I would be running off to the Vet at this point...

  • I agree with Pat. Every once in a while Apache will have a little blood in his poop. After taking him in for it a few times..I've finally decided to listen to my vet and as long as everything else is normal and it doesn't get worse I don't worry about it.

  • A while back my dog's poop was a little soft and there was a little blood in it. The fecal test revealed giardia. Everything was fine after a round of antibiotics.

  • Are there any other symptoms of Giardia, as I know some dogs got that last year, but Medjai never gets out of my sight, and has only been drinking out of his bowls for months.

  • They can pick up Giardia from lots of different things, even the wet grass in the yard… but since he has no other signs of illness (as Kebasmom said her's had loose stool), I would not be too concerned....

  • Since my original post, I have noticed two more stools with blood. I have gotten to the vet, and they are testing the stool, but so far, there is no Giardia and they are still testing.

Wishing you much luck with the prognosis. It's very scarey not knowing - but it's wonderful you're taking the right steps. 😉 Let us know Medjai's progress.

Sometimes Giardia is hard to detect, even with the stool sample… hopefully it is nothing....

  • They said that there is a overgrowth of Bacteria, which is common in some dogs. So I can either give him some yogurt or a med that they are giving me, as Medjai is a very picky eater. I just figured this would be easiest for now, but I'll try yogurt next time.
