Finally In Our New Home

Basenji Talk
  • So we moved into our new house this past weekend and are now getting settled. Chance has been acting strange which we expected. He isn't used to so much noise. The neighborhood we moved into is still buidling homes next to us so during the day the construction workers are outside making noise. He keeps pacing back and forth from the door to the window whining. Its hard to tell now when he really needs to go outside to potty or if he just wants to go out and investigate.
He has started to shake though like he is cold. I can't figure this out. Its not even cold in our house. He will just sit there and whine and shake. Why does he do that?????

He is just in a strange place (for him) all new stuff, new smells, new sounds… it will take some adjustment...

  • Dallas sometimes will shake a little if he is nervous, in a new place, etc. He loves going to new places but I noticed when I tried taking him to a new petstore the other day (vs the same one we have been going to) he was shaking a little while I had him in my arms walking into the store, like he was nervous. I wouldn't worry too much unless it continues for a while.

  • Nerves. Nala is not happy with change or when she goes to visit somewhere. It takes her a while to settle down.
Don't worry, give it time…he'll settle in.

  • mia and rocky both shaKE in the car..

mia cries the whole time too..

@rugosa LOL on the pig ear. But it's not just a basenji trait. One night it was storming and one of my rotts was fixated on one of the bedroom windows. I looked, there was a toad on the screen! The dog was so intense about wanting to get to it, my daughter went out in the rain and moved it from the window. From then until she died, day or night, I had to let her in the bedroom when it stormed to make sure the once-in-a-lifetime visitor wasn't there. They think more than many people give them credit for.

I hope I can sleep well tonight, but maybe I should drink one glass of wine before bed just to make sure :) Thanks!

I would suggest waiting until you get the little guy. Indi didn't have a name for abut 2 days. We had all these names in mind and none of them fit. Thats my two cents anyway (oh ya and because we did that I have a cool costume for him on haloween but I don't think I am going to get any cooperation on his end)

The only thing I would be concerned about with a Dachshund would be the possiblity of it having some back damage with the rough play of a basenji…or even trying to do the same acrobatics that Bs do. I have known some folks who had a lot of problems with disk and spine problems with Doxies...but I don't know if that is typical. Something to think about though...

I can understand the need to give him a bath. For me, I didn't want to be the bad guy in his eyes when he was a pup and me new to him, so I took him to a pet salon. (Yes - if he gets spoiled, then so do I for this job.) They have the right equipment to keep him in the tub, clean ears and clip toe nails. It cost me $25 including tip . . . but at least I didn't have to do it and he was so happy to see me when I picked him up. I felt like his hero.
