Basenji of the Week (2-11 Feb) Double Feature Sizi In CA and Rick in CO

Basenji Rescue
  • I just realized I forgot to post the basenji of the week last week, so this week I am featuring two, and with out further ado here they are…..

First there is Sizi in California, with Medfly basenji rescue, he is listed on the left side of the available Bs, 7th down (more info to follow on him)

Sizi, about three, came in from a pound very shy and nervous. He has made tremendous improvement and each day gets better. He will be a great addition to a quiet home.

    Next…

We have Rick with Colorado Basenji Rescue Rick is the 4th one down.

My name is Rick, and I do believe I am as handsome as they come! My foster mom calls me her "bundle of joy." I will wink and flirt at you, and I love to snuggle. I clearly have no lack of self esteem; nope, no problem there!

Rick is a 10-month-old, neutered, male Basenji with an endless amount of energy. He will need a home that can provide him with daily exercise and basic training skills. He is a very intelligent little guy with selective listening skills. Rick would thrive in a home with another young dog.

Rick is house-trained, and will stay in a crate when his foster mom is away. A home with a securely fenced yard is a must. Rick has not had experience with cats.

  • Oh, both are lovely.
    I have not had a b/w b yet.
    Maybe one of these days.
Fingers crossed that they both find their forever homes.

  • bump :D :D

  • That was so sad to read on the Co rescue site of the one that was left in the yard and the family moved away and was there for 5 DAYS in single digit weather until they found him…... I don't think I will ever understand people

  • Yes, unfortunately there has been a rash of stupidity (for lack of a better word) in Colorado. Here's an article about my other (secondary) breed:

    Sensitive readers, you are warned.

  • that is ridiculous.. and it makes me sad to know that there are people like that in the world..

i hope sizi and rick find great forever homes!!

No everyone should read… and then they might understand why we are so outspoken about breeding and buying from BYB's and/or Pet Stores... again, thank goodness in No. Cal, we have very, very few pet stores that sell puppies...

  • That poor dog now has a new loving family.
I am so glad of that.
My heart goes out to those who have yet to be rescued.
    Sigh.

  • Based on an email I recieved, it sounds like Rick has been placed.

  • YeAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA@!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks guys. they're both cuties, and at least they are someplace safe. It probably won't take them too long to find homes. -Joanne

Laura, You have posted under someone's thread looking to adopt. Hopefully people will still see it but you might get more attention on a new thread. I am starting one for you and will add the link. http://www.basenjiforums.com/showthread.php?16376-For-Laura-(-yodels2u)-seeing-breeder-wants-2-puppies&p=173379#post173379 That should take you to the thread. Good luck in your search. I know members here will have some breeders for you. Also, you might consider BRAT or rescues. While puppies not that common, they do come along. Also considering older pups (6 to 10 mos) from breeders that didn't work out for show but would be great as pets will broaden your options.

I don't know anything about this vet, but will he not work with you on payment? Many vets will treat dogs in urgent need on a payment plan or for a discounted rate. The vet does have some money upfront. Perhaps you could work out some sort of payment schedule for the balance or put part of the bill on a credit card, so the surgery can be done? If not, maybe another vet could be more flexible. Leaving the dog at the facility on IVs seems like it might make the bill larger and prolong the dog's discomfort or pain. You're in a hard spot, and I wish both you and your poor dog the best.
