Welcome, Kat and Paisley! She is a beautiful girl; isn't it amazing how quickly they fill our hearts? 🙂
Hello !

HEY!
My name is Alice, Im 17, and i live in Canada
I am looking for a basenji, i found a breeder so don't mind me posting all most of the threads asking for tips, Im going to probly get a basenji during the march break IF i pass my first period class its the only class im failing.
But yea my mom made a deal with me, She's going to pay 80% of the dog if i get a 50%, but if i get a 60 then she pays everything. But im still going to pay fro Vet, and she's going to pay for food.
We also have a Bichon frise, named Pushinka and he's 9 years old, BEST dog anyone could ever ask for.And i have been researching about the basenji and i like the sounds of the breed. And im ready for anything
Soo don't mind me posting away on here .

Good luck! A basenji of more of a committment than ANY other dog. But the reward far outweighs the effort.

Welcome to the forum!!! I agree that a basenji are a lot of commitment. I don't think more than any dog, all dogs take commitment. Basenjis take more a certain kind of finesse and creativity, mainly to try and be smarter than the basenji, certainly not an easy task.

Oh I'm from Canada too (live in Florida now, I don't think my Basenji would like it in the cold lol). They are a high maintenence dog, but not in the same way a lab or a retriever would be, mostly attention wise (they will do anything for attention lol). This site is amazing to answer questions. The one piece of advice I could give you now is make sure the 2 dogs will get along good luck and they are a very entertaining breed. I would not trade mine for the world

Talk to your breeder, but I always recommend that the current dog in the house meet the pups "before" you bring them home… make him "part" of the decision to get a pup...
-
okay thanx guys :).
soo should i bring my dog to the breeders with me than ? ?

Any pups that I place I require it… but that is for your breeder and you to discuss and it is important that they know you have a dog already... responsible breeders really "pick" the pup for you as they know the temperaments and what will usually fit in what family....
-
okay :).
sounds good -
What is your breeders name?
Have they done all the health testing for your new basenji? -
i don't know yet. I called and waiting for them to call back to get on the waiting list, the puppies arn't born yet. they will be born in Jan.
the breeder is Arrand Lynn & Dennis
-
Like I said, they are good people …. good luck, hope you can get on the waiting list... however, know that many times, responsible breeders have a waiting list long before they even decide to breed...
-
k. yea we called them again but they weren't picking up, and there email doesn't work either!! , i tried and the email got sent back to me

welcome to the forum – you'll find lots of good tips on dealing with the quirks of basenji behavior and some just plain funny stories about them.

Be very, very careful in your choice of a breeder. I learned some lessons about breeder choice after the fact and I deal with some issues with my two dogs that might not exist if I had spent more time researching breeders. A great breeder site (even if you don't get your dog from them) is Rugosa Basenjis. She gives a lot of advice when it comes to selecting a breeder and has a great print-out of how to handle you pup when he/she comes home to encourage a good "pack-member" in your pack.
I'm in love with my basenjis - they are great dogs, but they test you. You have to be on your toes with them, but they're worth every effort. Let us know when you get your dog!!

Vickie from Rugosa is a breeder…. she is near Detroit, Mi (but in Ohio)... and many of us have links and information on finding a breeder. The breeder she is talking about is a known breeder.... However Vickie typically has more reservations for pups then she has pups...

And yes you are correct, you should always research breeders so that you go to a responsible breeder and not a Back Yard Breeder… or a pet store

Yep, Vickie is right near me…I live on the west side of town, and she lives on the east side of town. You won't find a more dedicated breeder
