Hello !

  • @porsh:

    okay thanx guys :).

soo should i bring my dog to the breeders with me than ? ?

Any pups that I place I require it… but that is for your breeder and you to discuss and it is important that they know you have a dog already... responsible breeders really "pick" the pup for you as they know the temperaments and what will usually fit in what family....

  • okay :).
    sounds good

  • What is your breeders name?
Have they done all the health testing for your new basenji?

  • i don't know yet. I called and waiting for them to call back to get on the waiting list, the puppies arn't born yet. they will be born in Jan.

the breeder is Arrand Lynn & Dennis

  • Like I said, they are good people …. good luck, hope you can get on the waiting list... however, know that many times, responsible breeders have a waiting list long before they even decide to breed...

  • k. yea we called them again but they weren't picking up, and there email doesn't work either!! , i tried and the email got sent back to me

  • welcome to the forum – you'll find lots of good tips on dealing with the quirks of basenji behavior and some just plain funny stories about them.

  • Be very, very careful in your choice of a breeder. I learned some lessons about breeder choice after the fact and I deal with some issues with my two dogs that might not exist if I had spent more time researching breeders. A great breeder site (even if you don't get your dog from them) is Rugosa Basenjis. She gives a lot of advice when it comes to selecting a breeder and has a great print-out of how to handle you pup when he/she comes home to encourage a good "pack-member" in your pack.

I'm in love with my basenjis - they are great dogs, but they test you. You have to be on your toes with them, but they're worth every effort. Let us know when you get your dog!!

Vickie from Rugosa is a breeder…. she is near Detroit, Mi (but in Ohio)... and many of us have links and information on finding a breeder. The breeder she is talking about is a known breeder.... However Vickie typically has more reservations for pups then she has pups...

And yes you are correct, you should always research breeders so that you go to a responsible breeder and not a Back Yard Breeder… or a pet store

Yep, Vickie is right near me…I live on the west side of town, and she lives on the east side of town. You won't find a more dedicated breeder :)

  • Alrighty thanx guys :)

I need this to pass and i get the dog .

  • I know the breeder-Lynn and Dennis. In fact, I live near Niagara Falls and you can ask me about the Canadian breeders-if you feel more comfortable you can message me privately.

Aggression is an all encompassing term. As pointed out above, there is quite a range! It is not unusual for Basenjis to be dog aggressive. Mine is, and I just avoid other dogs because I know his intentions are not good. Some are same sex aggressive and fine with members of the opposite sex, and some may just be making a statement when they are leashed. If you describe what you are seeing more specifically I am sure lots of people will have common experiences and possible training fixes to share. I would love to see some pictures of Tucker, and welcome to the forum!

Welcome and so sorry to hear about the health issues of your two B's…. Thank you for opening up your home to them... And Thank Goodness we now have DNA tests for Fanconi so that no Basenji ever has to suffer with this horrible affliction.

I agree with the others that this is not a common practice among BCOA breeders. I am sorry that this happened to you and yes, you should get your deposit back.
