Baby Hayes Is HERE!!!!

Behavioral Issues

  • Congrats,a beautiful baby boy. dad's got to be really happy.

I guess the inducing labor threat works again!

  • Congrats He's such a cutie !!! Just remember to enjoy the times now Boy do they grow up soooo fast :)

  • Congrastulations on your new baby!

  • I suppose that after that much labor and a C-section you probably don't want to hear from people who only went 8 months 1 week and had no labor until 10 min before baby popped out. :) (that would be me x3)

Congrats to you all - and some advice - if you start right now saving for college and car insurance - you might have enough $ when you need it.

  • **For those of you who have been asking for more pictures of Baby Aiden here you go!!!:)

    HERE IS AIDEN'S SHIRT THAT I LOVE…LOL

    AIDEN'S HALLOWEEN COSTUME "GO BUCKS!!!"

    AIDEN…ONE MONTH OLD 10-23-2007**

  • Very cute!

  • Aww - so precious. Thanks - Hope you're feeling much better now. I remember the 1st 6 weeks were the toughest with the C-section and all the changes.

  • Thanks for sharing those, Kira!! He's adorable {duh, right?}.
Already a month anda half; Wow, the time is flying!

  • OOOOOhhh! He's sooooo adorable! Great costumes, you all look great!

  • THANK!!! And OH YES time does fly…i dont want him to get bigger....

  • @Capt_Jack_our_Basenji:

THANK!!! And OH YES time does fly…i dont want him to get bigger....

My first baby is 20. That's TWENTY YEARS OLD!!! How the blazes did THAT happen? LOL.
My last baby will be 9 –NINE!!!!! -- in a couple of weeks. Yikes!

I know people always say, "enjoy them while they're young; they grow up before you know it", which is true, but there's no way to really appreciate that fact until it's too late! You are so busy with the day to day, you just don't notice that suddenly your infant is packing to move out!

But there is so much fun to come! By this time next year, he'll be walking!! and beginning to talk!!! THAT is so much fun!
You DO want those fun days to come also.

But I know these infancy days are so special -- so snuggly and warm.
{and tiring! ;) } I understand there's a part of you that would love it to last forever.

@Quercus: Kim, one of the reasons your situation worked out sooooo well, is that you made Ryan's presence a huge benefit for your dogs,; they got to spend just as much (if not more) time doing things with you and the baby. All kinds of good stuff happened when Ryan arrived, so they made a positive association with him. The way you handled it is ideal….and it has paid off for all of you :) Thank you :) Just after we made the decision we wanted a baby, we talked and thought about how we could get this result. When we were sure we thought about everyting, we got pregnant :D It's important that you can/try to think the way your Basenji thinks and work with that.

I grew up with birds, hamsters, cats, dog, rabbits and we had hives of honey bees. Never anything wrong with me all my life even got lucky never stepped on a bee. My kids have cats, dogs, bird and my daughter never worn pretty little dress cause she would go right under a car with her dad and get grease all over her. Dirt and my son go hand in hand. They have been healthy. Now as far as walking to school I could not do that. Been far to many kids never got to school to many out there take kids. So my kids have never been allowed to walk to school. One mile there but anything could happen. People that usually do not want animals have there little fancy house and do not want the hair or the dirt. We have a friend who has three children just got a puppy about month ago poor puppy. Puppy got over gate in wash room and well had fun while they were at work. She just about lost it aniamls are better off without being that kind of home I told her so. Sad news her husband just went to work for Science Diet and they have a animal day once a month and they told him it was important they had a animal. He lied when got job and said he did. Now there is a puppy my heart really goes out to. Rita Jean

You need to work on calming her – I've done this with mine by making sure I ignore the outside noises, yawning and sighing when there's noises, anything to show her that as alpha dog you choose to ignore the outside distractions and she will catch on -- it does take some time though. You might have her do some sit+reward or other behavior+reward to help her calm down when she hears the noises.

Guys, thanks so much for all your help! We are absolutely making progress! Bassit isn't exactly happy to go into 'puppy jail' (the gated off area where we keep her when we're mopping floors or something/not at home), but the screaming has lessened HUGELY. 2 walks a day, kong full of peanut butter, and doing this over and over again, has things greatly improved. Now all we have to do is get her to stop getting into everything while I'm working, we'll be just fine! PS - This community is great. I can't tell you how much I appreciate it.

I was told, back in 2000, when I brought our daughter Sofia home form the hospital, to let my husband carry her in, and me to come in and immediatly pay attention to our two dogs at the time. That way I was still their mom and the baby (this new screaming thing) hadn't gotten all of me for herself. I spent time with them on the floor, they did a lot of sniffing and once they had sniffed all the new smells out, my husband brought Sofia over for them to smell her too. They did not like her at first, but we made it very clear that she is here to stay, like it or not. I also remember them both freaking out when they heard her cry through the babymonitor, we actually ended up not using it after that. Those two dogs ended up being her best friend and they put up with a lot. We just lost both of those dogs, one in March and one exactly 4 weeks later. But that is a different story. One more thing, when people came over to gush over the new baby, some of our friends actually brought the dogs special treats, they were our first born kids so they deserved attention too. I think that was a really nice touch of our friends to in this time of amazement actually remember Bogus and Lou, and I also think jealousy was kept at a minimum because of the attention they got. Good Luck, bringing a new baby home is so exciting and such a happy time in your lives.

My husband thinks the baby gate for our B is silly so I don't think i can talk him into the $100 playpen plus our B is too active, it won't be able to stay in place. I can see it already collapsing.
