What is your favorite color pattern?

Basenji Talk
  • @ChristyRutherford:

I have always wanted a perfect (in my eyes) deep red and white male. With a big white blaze up his face.
    Like this:
    http://www.basenjirescue.org/DOGS/MO/MO-Juma.asp
He would be my ideal. It is a great thing that he isnt great with cats (not listed, but Im not asking:) ) Because he would already be at my house.

But, now I am very partial to the open faced tri with a small white blaze. Why, because I am the lucky one who has one of these funky looking guys. And because I love him :)

(I will add a picture later)

I prefer the reds w/NO blaze on the face, like Jazzy. I think the blaze takes away from the eyes. But that's not to say that Keoki {deep red w/blaze} isn't absolutely STUNNING. ;)

I do think it is amazing that I managed to get the two most beautiful Basenjis in the world . . . . :D

  • My favorite is tri's hands down, but really love them all. I get way more comments on our tri than the red and she is just a beautiful. Although more people seem to fear tri's, & dark colored dogs, I have noticed.

I do really love larger muscular red male basenji's with small eyes & ears, the just look really bad a@#. Wrinkles just dont show as well on anything other than reds.

  • Tri is hands down with me also…. love the little "bandit" faces with the eye pips... plus the fact that Tris are "wicked" and "goofy" all at the same time

  • While my Hollie is a brindle, I really love the look of the b & w. They are all striking creatures!!!

  • I like the exotic look of the brindles.

I like the formal flashy look of the b/w and Tri.

I always ask people which of ours they are most impressed with and most have said the big R/W Max. To me the reds look like little deer.

I have really fallen in love with our b/w's for their personality…....they just seem more needy or dependant on us than the others.

  • I agree the R/W look like deer & very cute (especially mine :D)..but the brindle are very cute (espeically mine hee :D) but I have to say that the B/W I find them stunning…not sure why and initially they were not my fav.

    Could be threads like this?

I was like you that B/W was not my favorite as the B/W's I had seen were not that great looking till recently when I saw the above thread and this dog here-

Also what's weird is she has ONLY two males!

  • @I:

Funny, but you dont have Squiggy :p
Isnt it great that we all think ours is the best, cutest… That just proves that basenjis as a whole are the best dogs around!
However, when I went home for lunch and saw my bolster pillows on my sitting room bed all shredded, I would have easily given him to you:D

  • I think I would love to have one of each color!

  • :D How can you not love a Tri?….

  • Sahara is my favorite color, and of course she is R & W, but I must say that B & W are my second fav. Arti is the most handsome B & W I have seen followed by Jasper of Basenji Park. If I were to have another B it would be Black and White if I could resist another Sahara, haha!!!!!!!!!! You gotta love these dogs b/c they sure can destroy your stuff, Sahara has that's for sure. I found chew marks this week on my wood daybed in my guest room, I have chew marks everywhere. I use bitter apple but it has not worked, any suggestions?

  • I love all the colors pretty equally…but if I *had to choose a favorite, I think I would choose tri, with a small white blaze :)

  • I love-love-love the red and whites by far, with white wiskers. I think with the lighter brighter color of the red you can see more details of the dog like wrinkles, muscles, things like that (especially in photos). Alote of white on the body is cool too. I like the basenji's that have more white than they are supposed to. Tri's are my second fav.Although B&W's look very shiney in the sun not really into that color.I always hear that black dogs at the shelters are really hard to adopt out because to most people the light bright or unique colors (blues) stand out. All the colors are pretty neat though, as long as its a basenji the dog is A-O-K in my book! As far as brindle I'm usually not into that with the exception of "one" that I met along time ago it was a deep red with thin neat SOLID black stripes on the back all separated and parallel to each other. So pretty! I guess I just really like the red and white because they are traditional and I have read that you see them the most in Africa!

  • Black and white is the color I was first attracted to and is my favorite but I have come to really like all the colors.

:D How can you not love a Tri?….

    Cute! I love this picture!

  • Arti is the most handsome B & W I have seen followed by Jasper of Basenji Park.

    Youngandtired-actually Jasper is a brindle…it's Willy that's the GORGEOUS b/w :D :D

  • @ChristyRutherford:

    Cute! I love this picture!

That is Mickii with her impression of "stickem up"…. and her grand daughter will do the same thing!

  • @ChristyRutherford:

Here is a picture of Squiggy with my Mom's BRAT Petey.

    He's beautiful!!

    Love that picture!! So adorable!!

  • Okay, I was hesitant to reply to this thread (other than to compliment all of your dogs!), but I guess I will weigh in:
I have always loved the R/Ws - I "ordered" one (LOL), but the one bitch didn't take and there were only R/W males. That's how we ended up with Nala, our beautiful tri.
I have to say that now, since joining this forum, I really could not decide which color I like best. They are all beautiful and each dog is unique and special with their own personalities and personally, I'd take them all!!!

Another ice cube lover here. Kipawa totally loves them. We make sure though that he cannot see that they are coming out of the fridge water dispenser area. He is as smart as a whip and I fear he would figure it out. He also gets about 3 - 4 ice cubes in his water (fresh twice daily).

First I would suggest that if you don't trust the breeder to explain it to you, you need to perhaps work on a bit better relationship there. Or find a breeder who has the time, knowledge and interest in doing so. The breeder should always be your first line of information. :) Second I would suggest that while I myself prefer the red and whites, it isn't how I could choose a dog for a pet. If the dark remaining is a deal breaker, perhaps someone here can suggest a breeder with pups that would fit. Third, gets pictures. We love pictures. Fourth, BAD BARKLESS! Do you know how hard it is to get coffee off the keyboard and monitor? ROFLMAO.

In Oakleys litter some of the pups eyes were lighter hazel in color, I am fond of the way it looks and think it's striking but agree that the standard is the darker the better… Oakley has dark eyes buy wouldn't have minded at all if they were light

Great to hear that she has healed and that you found out what the culprit was. BTW, I thought she had a very sweet looking belly!

So far Shaye's favorites are the "no stuffing" animals with squeaky toys at each end - she has a squirrel and a beaver - she runs around squeaking them - strange thing, when her puppy teeth were out and she was getting her big teeth, for a while she had trouble making them squeak and she would toss them in the air and drag them around running full-out, then jump on them and try to get them to squeak again. She also has a set of hard plastic keys on a ring that she enjoys tossing and chasing (and getting us to toss for her of course. Her favorite game - reverse fetch.
