Help with diarrhea

Basenji Health Issues & Questions
  • I *think you should be okay if you really watch closely. If he did eat a quantity of cardboard, it can definitely make a blockage. If he is pooping, eating, and acting normally, chances are he will be fine…but if any of those things are off, I would get him in. Whatever goes in needs to come out in approximately the same quantity, or he might have a partial blockage.

I hope things get better very soon! :)

I totally agreee with Pat - the vet should know what's going on. Also the fact that the diarrhoea is black is a cause for concern, in my opinion.

How is C3PO doing? I read this thread late, but if he's not okay try going to the vet and asking for a broad spectrum wormer. The one that Nala had was a one-time banana smelling (and I guess tasting) one. My vet told me sometimes giardia, etc. can be missed on the fecal test and it doesn't hurt to worm them (provided the rest of the exam checks out okay). That helped Nala immensely. She gained weight and hasn't had diarrhea at all. Sharon

On any older dog, cataracts are very common… It would be very hard for a Ophth. Vet to mix up PRA with cataracts. Did you take your Basenji to a board certified eye vet?
