    Hey guys,
    I'm looking for a puppy/young Basenji. I'm located in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, and willing to travel(up to 700 ish km?). If you have one for adoption or know of someone who has one, please let me know! Thanks!

    Hi there
    You need to think out of the box. There is a whole wide world out there. We lived in Hawaii and got our basenji from N.Z. Cost was $2,000, most of it air fare.

    Hi there,
    Funny enough, my guy is from a breeder in Pembroke - just down the road from Ottawa! They've had litters on and off over the years, but I'm not sure whether they're active at the moment (last I heard, one of the moms was in a "false heat" and they might try again with her in the summer). In any event, it's easiest to politely contact whatever active breeders you can find in Ont/QC, and I find they're very nice and often able to refer you to others should their bookings be full. That's how I did it. Best of luck!!

    Hello, go to www.basenji.org and search for breeders... by state and there are some from Canada... you are most likely looking at possible breedings for fall/winter of 2020. Note however it is IMPORTANT that you go to a responsible breeder so registration papers are important as many BYB's use other types of registrations that are not registered by AKC or the Canadian Kennel club and you need to follow up on health testing youself... if they are doing responsible health testing before breeding the results are public at www.ofa.org.     Check the Basenji Club of Canada and Basenji Club of America websites. Many breeders will have listed their fall breedings [this is my assumption, as mine have been there for months] on their own websites. Do you also have children or just the dogs? 4 dogs does not sound chaotic at all to me… but I have two middle-school kids and their plethora of friends over here daily... plus my not-small-enough gaggle of dogs. Chaos is a given living [or visiting] in my house!

    @jds_truck: I just want a pet. i am willing to rescue if there is one in the area available as long as it's not to , to sick actually would almost preffer to show a dog that has had a bad living so far that would truley appreciate a good home. Many rescues are actually perfectly healthy dogs that find themselves in need of new homes for various reasons other than health concerns. Check out the BRAT website. Many wonderful basenjis looking for homes :) If you are going through a breeder go with someone you can trust and build a relationship with for the dogs life. Some breeders need homes for older dogs as well and many good breeders are active in rescue too. I hope you find a nice dog…good luck in your search.
