Thank you for the input eeeefarm, that is exactly what I'm planning to do once ive done some more research.i have been around many different breeds of dogs over the years but never owned one myself so I have a fair bit of knowledge about most breeds and I would never put my children in harm's way or any dog for that matter. If I'm not as sure as I can be about my family's ability to love, look after and train a dog we won't be having one. This is why I got onto this forum to gather as much information from owners (like your good self) and others who have bothered to read my message properly,as I can before we go ahead and take on a very large commitment.
Looking for a Basenji puppy/ young adult

Hello! My girlfriend and I are looking for a basenji puppy/ young adult to adopt. I know they are hard to find and we are very motivated ! We live in Nebraska . Willing to travel or pay for shipping . Thank you

You can search for responsible breeders at www.basenji.org by state, however as far as I know all responsible breeders on the West Coast already have full reservation lists. You would be looking at litters possible in 2021. This is the time to connect with a responsible breeder and get on their reservation lists for 2021.
Be sure that you check out health testing yourself, regardless of what you might be advised. Tests for DNA testing is public knowledge at www.ofa.org. You need to have either a registration number or name to check this out for yourself to verify. I suggest all people looking for a Basenji, even my own, do this.

This is why it’s so important to do your research and purchase from a reputable breeder. It’s unfortunate that there so so many backyard breeders and scammers out there that want to take advantage of people. -

To Whom It May Concern,
I purchased a Puppy from [removed URL]I looked at their web site. No information about sire and dam, litter size, littermates, health information on parents, what vaccinations have been done, etc. etc. I'm sorry this happened to you, but the red flags were everywhere on that website!!!
Personally I would not buy a pup from a breeder unless I could visit and see both pups and parents, at least the dam if sire is off site. An older dog I might and have had shipped to me sight unseen, but in the two cases I have adopted an older dog the only cost to me was shipping and the only thing "in it" for the breeder who trusted me was that their dog would have a good Basenji savvy home....
