    Hello there! I met a Basenji back in New York and immediately fell in love with them! I have been doing research on them for several years, and I'm finally ready to bring one into my family! I know that the seasons for puppies is nearly here and I'm starting to contact responsible and accredited breeders via AKC and BCOA. I live on the Gulf Coast and there are not many breeders in my immediate area. I don't mind traveling to visit/pick up my future Basenji but it slows things down a lot. I can't wait to bring home a Basenji and give it a great home. If anyone has any tips, suggestions or recommendations on Breeders or Resources I am all ears! Thank you, I'm excited to join the Basenji family!

    Hello there,
    Where on the gulf coast are you located? I am in Florida and have two wonderful Basenji girls that I got in south Georgia. I can provide you with the information of the breeder if that is good for you

    Thanks so much! I am in Mississippi. I would really appreciate the info on your breeder. I did get in touch with Pat at Berimo Basenjis and she has been wonderful and seems very experienced and professional. She isn't too far from me either.

    @t-jones Hi. I too am in Florida, Melbourne area. Would you supply me with the breeder you spoke about that is in Georgia? I am looking to replace a recently departed male basenji that we had.

    @karann - The key in my opinion is to visit with Basenjis before you get one... Of course I always recommend that regardless. But for allergies, ask the owners to prepare a small towel that the Basenjis will sleep on for a few days... take that home and put it under your pillow.... will give you a good idea if your allergies will kick up

    You can help allergic reaction with most breeds by simply grooming regularly and wiping down with even something like baby wipes. But no dog is hypoallergenic.If your allergies are mild you can do what many of us do, just take antihistamines. :) If severe, sadly you should not count on a basenji to no set them off. Some nonshedding dogs do better, but they also have dander and saliva, so they also are NOT hypoallergenic.

    Adorable face - probably a devil in hiding :p If the biting is clearly play biting a firm NO should work (and see previous comments). If more serious then try bitter apple spray. You definitely want to stop this type before it gets out of hand. Mine (3 yrs old) occasionally will bite (gently and really just a mouthing) when trying to get my attention to play. But you can tell from her expression that she knows she did something unacceptable. Consistent training is the most important thing you could do.

    Hi everyone, I just found this forum. I have had my 2 basenji's for 3 years coming this dec 29th. They are brother/sister. We are located here in peoria, az. They are a handful especially the male who gets into everything that is not nailed down. We did all the research and new what we were getting into, that why we have 2. A tired basenji is a good banenji. We take them to the "bark park" every weekend. Its their time to meet and greet everyone. Good luck one your pup..take lots of pictures. We have taken ours to Petsmart for the professional pictures every year. It takes about 1 hour until they get the right shot. My male is very active and moves alot. Right now the little girl has valley fever we are trying to get her tiger count down, but next year I want to add to our family, (if the male alowes it). lol:)
