Cute pup. She has all the markings of a basenji. Sometimes a little mix of another breed in her is good. It will help with not having the genetic problems basenjis have.
Places to meet a Basenji? (Columbus, OH)
-
Hello! I have been obsessed with basenjis for a couple years now, but I have never seen one in person. I'd love the chance to see some and/or talk to some more experienced owners. Not looking to get one right now; I wanted to wait a couple years for when the timing is right. Is there anyone in the Columbus, OH area (I'd even travel to Cleveland) who's basenji I can meet? Or do you know of a breeder in the area that would let me and my partner visit to talk about the breed?

Basenji Rescue And Transport (BRAT) has 29 volunteers who have Basenjis within 60 miles of Columbus, and there are 15 within 20 miles. I'm sure that I can find you somebody.

also, contact the ohio breeders. And find out when shows are.

Best dog I had ever owned.
-
OMG- what a beautiful dog! My deepest condolences.

There is Hi'Cotn at Urbana, she has some interesting ones, and medium Schnauzers.
-
@catherineseifert I am in Cincinnati. Send me a note.!
-
@redial I just looked up HiCotn and CarolAnn seems great! Is there any reason she's not listed as a breeder on the BCOA website?
-
@catherineseifert - It is optional if breeders want to be listed or not. She is well known in the breed and is responsible.
-
@tanza
Why would a breeder choose not to be listed? -
@debradownsouth - costs money to be listed, they may not want to spend it.... lots of people have lots of reasons. I don't question them. Bottom line, responsible breeders know who the responsible breeders are.

Visits by ne'er-do-wells. Unwelcome visitors, from people who do not ring for an appointment is one reason. Some people love their dogs, and like to keep them that way.

She has a web page, so that wouldn't stop them. So are you saying people who are on BCOA list DON'T love their dogs?
She's well enough established she doesn't need to public to find her, she has the testing and showing... basenji folk can see who's doing it right. I just wondered by someone wouldn't. I had not thought about the costs.

There is no need to verbal me. There are those that would do this.

Hi there! I live in CLE but I do go to dog shows in Columbus at the fair grounds. I think they are November and April? You are more than welcome to meet my dogs there! If you'd like to meet my boys let me know! Also, there are a ton of wonderful breeders in OH. Sue Kite (Klassic) is in Marion and Laurie Owen (Spring Willow) is in Akron. My parents got their little girl from Laurie and she was ALWAYS happy to have us come visit! There is also Tim Huff (Victory), Becky Blansett (Epic) and Tracy Leonard (Select) who are all great OH breeders.

Check out Spring Willow Kennels! That's where we got our Basenji, Remus, from Laurie and she was great. She's not far from Cleveland!
