  • Hi

We are Claire and Stevie. We joned the forum to hopefully findpeople who love Basenjis, and to use their knowledge to make us better owners, and hopefully in time pass on our acquired knowledge.

We have a 12 week old male Basenji pup called Antefaa Lukuru Adonis, who is known as Buddy.

He is one of 7 litter mates. He is a red and white boy and we have had him for 4 weeks.

Buddy is being fed raw, he has been fed raw since being weaned. He enjoys his raw green tripe and his meaty bones. He is currently teething, but so far so good, nothing of an value his been destroyed, yet!
He loves his toys and his favourite is a stuffing free fox, that needs serious emergency treatment to ring him back to life. The poor fox is currently missing two squeakers and a 2 inch piece of fur.

He is semi house trained, here's hoping it stays that way!!

Looking forward to chatting with you all.

  • Hi,

    Welcome to our community!

  • Welcome - we need pictures ;-)

  • Yes photos please, time goes so fast our boy is nearly 17 months old and I can't remember him being 12 weeks old anymore. Those raw meaty bones would be great for his chewing and teething and satisfying his chewing needs keeping your house safe. Lot's of good info on this forum and people willing to help when you need them. Enjoy your pup.

Please post some pictures so we can show them to our sisters Lela and Binti (3 and 4 years old).

  • Congrats on getting one of the Lukuru babies… what a darling litter it was... watched the litter from birth on FaceBook....

@Nancy-Berry The saying is a very true one... when people ask how your dogs are with children, say "It depends.. how are your children with dogs?" Toddler Leora got her little legs smacked more over the dogs than anything. Not training your child to respect dogs, to understand that a hurt dog can and probably will respond, ... well it puts your child and dogs in danger.

A tired Basenji?!!! Joking apart, I agree with the previous posts. It is really important that she doesn't get something for nothing as Wizard advises make her work for it. Welcome to the Forum to you,Teagan and the others.

Yes. It seems crate training is super important as safety to the dog. As to B escaping, I am not too worried as at my house there is a inner court yard that has another door leading up to my front door. Usually when people ring the door bell, they ring the outside bell. I though have to go through 2 doors, which is great especially if the dog escapes from one door, he is stopped at the other ;) That portion I am pretty confident.

dear muffen hi and welcome :) rescuing a dog is a wonderful thing, i hope this is a good option for you. i know brat has many dogs in florida that are looking for their forever homes. they do a great job of matching dogs to the right owner. disclaimer if you have small children it might be a good idea to get a puppy from a reputable breeder. luckily, puppy season will be here soon and there are a couple of really great breeders in florida.
