Bad day–> needed a laugh

Basenji Talk
  • Yesterday I had a very long and arduous day, I come home walk Oakley, feed him and get dinner going….I hadn't smiled all day and in walks Oakley ( right into a wall) because he stole the empty pasta box (my dinner) and got it stuck over his head...I didn't take a picture but it was definitely the comedic relief I needed. Thought I would share

  • The perfect way to come out of your doldrums! That must have been a picture for sure. He is a doll - bet he was embarrassed when you took the box off his head - they don't like to appear out of total control much. LOL

  • Definitely embarassed. At home I always pretend to be Oakley in a funny voice ( I'm nuts!) and I swear if he could talk it would be" ugh mom, nothing to look at here, just taking out the recycling"

His gooberness is why I love him…always something to smile at

  • That's what makes this breed great. They are complete clowns, endless source of entertainment. :)

AMEN!!!!! Would have had to stand with my legs close while laughing if I witnessed that one!!!! I am particularly fond of Uzie's 180 turn to let me know it is getting close to dinner time, then the 'Tissue Retrieve Game'. He promptly goes into the bathroom (the only time of day this is done….) brings out a used tissue, drops it in front of us while we are watching the 5pm news and love to have (me) get up, pick it up, and hope I turn to the kitchen to begin his dinner preparations...................

  • You can always count on them for that!!

  • Lol, i can just imagine it

  • We can always rely on Basenjis to lift our spirits!

  • Very true… He always seems to know just what I need.....but then again, there are times he seems to know just what I don't need!!! Lol

Either way I laugh so that just goes to show I'm crazy about him

  • Basenjis are best! It is impossible for my husband and I to be around Kipawa and not smile or laugh. :) How wonderful that yours can lift your spirits as well!

thanks all!! Jenson and Kalusha both have a "rest-day" today, jenson was very active in the woods the last couple of days, so his limping got a bit worse, and Kalusha was totaly confused yesterday, so time out for one day for them both! @curlytails: That's also very chilling to hear about the Ibizans getting stolen. I hate to wonder about the kind of black market that deals in stolen pedigree dogs. I imagine the burglars targeted the breeder specifically for her dogs? Seems like your everyday thief would find it too difficult to make off with live loot! well the "raterno's"that were also stolen is not even an official recognized dog, only in spain they are recognized as far as I know, and the Ibizans are not of high value there as well as they are quite common type of dog, ofcourse the pedigreed ibizans are rare, even in spain, but they did not steel the pedigrees with them, so we have really no clue why they have been stolen and it really looks like they knew what they were after because they targeted this breeder indeed. It makes it even worse that these 2 male ibizans were from their last litter, they are older people and did not want to breed anymore and now these last pups are stolen :(

Lol…sorry to laugh but I was walking Indy the other day and for some strange reason there was a pair of socks in the middle of the side walk. Needless to say he saw it before I did. He raced up to it grabbed them and was starting his best show dog prance by the time I saw him.

When Cairo was coming into his manhood which was around the later part of his 4th month he began to try to dominate every dog (male or female) at the dog part. We were in the smaller dog pen, so there were plenty of smaller dogs for him to dominate. I recognized the behavior (not full mounted, but the arm on the back) and we didnt go back until he was fixed. Major difference. I would suggest going to a Petsmart and doing your normal commands there. It is so busy and loud there that you can practice getting his attention. Having an intact dog at the dog park is a big challenge. You dont want to take treats into a dog park in case some one else's dog is food aggressive and you have to feel confident you can pull his attention away from his interest when you want. I would think any kind of training that included socializing with other dogs would be a big help.

That is a great idea, but it should be an adolescent for sure (seems to be the most trying stage). My mom also really liked our dog (the look, the no bark, typical things most people like) and she quickly changed her ideas. We were telling her about the time we had to babysit another dog and the things she did to let us know that she did not like another dog in our house (she did some very naughty things)! My mom said 'wow she is really a manipulating dog'. I said, yeah they are definately not a breed for everyone.
