    Hello, I'm from the UK and my family and I have decided we are ready for a puppy, the Basenji immediately caught our eye.
    We are not first time dog owners my husband and I, but the kids are finally old enough for the responsibility and at least one of us is always in the house.
    We are looking for a Female pup, we would prefer tanned coat but we are open to other colours.
    If anyone could pass on any emails/websites of anyone you know of with a litter up coming as we can wait a month or two! We are willing to travel for one of these adorable pups, and cost is no issue.
    I've looked all over and the websites seem to be from years ago and I have been getting no response when I try and get in touch.
    Please help! I need one of these lovely animals

    Most Basenjis are born in Nov and Dec and I think all female Basenji pups from last years litters have been accounted for. You could try emailing the secretaries from the UK breed clubs as they usually have a list of litters and can help to match up potential owners. Make sure you do your homework on the breed and the breeders and try to visit a breeder or two so you can spend some time with Basenjis before you make a final decision. Basenjis are not like most breeds of dogs and can be a challenge. Good luck with your search.

    Please do plenty of research before making a decision to have a Basenji.

    Where are you in the UK? - if near to me you are welcome to visit my Basenjis and talk Basenji talk. I'm no longer breeding but I think it's important to visit Basenji homes before making decisions. As Benkura says there don't seem to be any female pups available at present. The plus of that is that you've plenty of time to see as many Basenjis as you can. Most breeders are like me and would be pleased for you to visit with their Basenjis.

    I am sure that Zande will chime in with suggestions, but know that this time of year all pups are spoken for with reservations for this years litters... you are most likely looking at possible 2021 pups. Zande can give you some breeder (responsible) suggestions

    As I've said several times in different threads - Covid has brought out a plethora of would-be Basenji owners, not just in UK but across Europe. We are starting to fear dogs being dumped into Rescue when lockdown is lifted and people return to work in offices , having realised there is far more to owning a Basenji than just the facts that they don't bark, are small and keep themselves clean like cats. I have had well over 70 - probably 80 now the weekend's crop of enquiries has been dealt with per email and entered into my notes - and am at a loss to be able to tell them of a single breeder who doesn't already have a waiting list full to overflowing. Anyone posting me privately will receive a detailed response but it won't carry too much hope for this winter.

    Thank you for the input eeeefarm, that is exactly what I'm planning to do once ive done some more research.i have been around many different breeds of dogs over the years but never owned one myself so I have a fair bit of knowledge about most breeds and I would never put my children in harm's way or any dog for that matter. If I'm not as sure as I can be about my family's ability to love,look after and train a dog we won't be having one. This is why I got onto this forum to gather as much information from owners (like your good self) and others who have bothered to read my message properly,as I can before we go ahead and take on a very large commitment.

As for champdogs site... when a site allows anyone to post if they pay a fee, not a good source. If all you need is a fee and one health test to be approved to be a member, not a good site if you are looking for well bred dogs from responsible breeders. Memtuka keeps protesting.. but this info is directly from her own pages. If she has more testing, then she lacks the professionalism to comprehend that people knowledgeable about breeding would never leave out tests, nor expect puppy buyers to look for further tests. As it is, it is woeful. As is her comment that she tests only if going to breed. A good breeder tests every single dog they produce and keep because they want to know what is in the line. The stud dogs I used ARE health tested and as far as I am aware Champdogs is a reputable website. So if your dogs are tested more than I wrote, may I suggest you correct YOUR PAGES which is where I got, and said I got, my info from. Libelous when it is your pages, that's pretty funny. All anyone has to do is click on each of your dog's individual pages and see you list only the testing I said, with only the import with significant testing. Too silly to even respond to the moniker comment.. from someone whose name here is "noodle". Most breeders here use their kennel or real names, btw. As for info on your own pages.. members can simply click and verify.. or check screencaps below. I do hope if you actually have more testing, you will care enough about the image you are portraying of a breeder who has almost no health testing done on your first bitch, nor any listed for the studs of the litters.
