This Weekend's Coursing

Basenji Training
  • With our race weekend cancelled due to a soggy field, we went ASFA coursing instead. L'Ox picked up both of his first placements and 32 points going BOB beating his half sister in Open and his mom in the BOB run both days. Kyo, Kinetic-Tanza Reaper Man, also got to see the lure for the first time and give it a try, http://youtu.be/kVQ4colkhDQ

It was a nice weekend with the rain holding off until after the trial was finished. The dogs are all happily worn out and sprawled on various couches.

  • Congratulations, so nice to have another event available when one gets cancelled

  • :) Watching basenjis coursing really makes me smile. They truly love it. Congrats on the results.

Darn those plastic bags! I remember last summer Kevin and Therese had to have a significant number of replacement bags on hand.

Hi Joti and Karen, We live in Ladner, but we have done lure course practicing with Kipawa in the Cloverdale area. The people who host the lure course practicing have whippets. They have a large acreage and often set up two styles of courses - one straight and one 'freeform' (not sure if that is the right word for it). Can you email me at compucat@dccnet.com and I will give you more information. They are holding a practice tomorrow, August 12 that begins at 10 a.m.

West Suburban Humane Society has a secure server for donations on their website. I don't know if there is a way you can mark that it is from Katie's Gotcha Day Fundraiser though. If you go to this page: http://www.wshs-dg.org/wshs/blog/2009-07-06/fundraiser-benefit-wshs there is a button for click & pledge on the right hand side. I would like be at the BSCOW picnic this weekend too, but I haven't RSVP'd yet. Thanks so much. Still hope to see people at the fundraiser! -Nicole

I made a Photobucket album of this weekend. There are pictures of Beck & Lola & one picture of Beck's new puppy sister, Bon-Bon (her real name is pronounced Bonmee, but I don't know how to spell it) http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee290/carriesquires/ASFA%20Trial%20Winter%20Challenge/

If your dog doesn't like being crated then maybe creating a "safe place" for when kids visit that the dog can be where it can have some time away from the kids.

Glad to hear the trip went well. I'm sure there are people on here that can tell you more, but Bs are about 17 inches at the shoulder. I use my crate all the time. Deke LOVES it. He'd rather sleep in there then with us! It's also his "safe" zone. I have two (human) girls 6 and 10 they are not allowed to bother him in there.. other kids that come over are also told to leave the him alone when in his crate. It is in our kitchen so he's always near us. He actually likes it covered(it's like a den), he's in it when ever we're not home and at night. When he goes to my parents it goes to and his bankets and the cover. He gets a treat most times he goes in. We trained him to go in with the command "crate" but "bed time" works at night. When he was little we just picked him up and put him in we said "crate, good boy" and gave him treats. He just learned to love it. Good Luck
