Ticklish?

Basenji Talk
  • I am wondering if any of you have had this experience. Several of my Basenjis…...but one in particular......appear to enjoy being tickled. Not in an aggressive way, but if I ran my fingertips very lightly over my second girl's back and legs and belly (when she was standing up), she would stand very still, raise her hackles, and appear to have "shivers up her spine". She gave every evidence of enjoying it and didn't like it when I would quit. My others have also appeared to enjoy this, although none quite so much as her.

Tickling feet, however, is a different story, and all of them have been annoyed by it. I mostly do it to bug them and provoke a game, which it generally does, after some foot switching and licking.

  • I do that to Oakley a lot, it's like a very light rubbing, just barely touching them… He loves it... He stands or lays very still while I do it and always relaxes his body as if to say "ahh"

  • suki will continually paw at my hands to get me to do this… she stands and i very lightly rub her belly. and when i stop, she starts the pawing again. and she's so persistent, and those little nails hurt... so i must obey.

  • I do that in the arm pits and they both seem to like it.Also raspberrys on the belly make them go all weird! lol

  • Boy, have I been trained! I give Kipawa full body massages! It is sweet to see his eyes lose focus as he drifts off.

Ah yeah though the site that I saw clearly had a picture of a Basenji representing the breed! Your link, they look nothing like Bs

Hi @Vesna, it’s interesting you say that about the spay. Our tri-color actually just got spayed this week and her coat shed before that. I noticed small amount of black hair growing in where she shed, hopefully it grows back. What phase is your tri-color at? Did this just happen?

Ah ok cool thanks, I had something like that when Safi was smaller and it was the most successful for sure. She outgrew it quite quickly though

I can't listen to that, it would wake my girl up and well... I'm not into a "sing along" just now. ;) I will say that many canines howl and yodel and bay (at the moon, whenever a fire truck passes, etc.). I'm not certain that any one breed is distinctive enough to have a sound all their own, but many a proud owner would probably assert so.

We use ones from Rukka. Not sure if they’re available everywhere but they are they best ones we have tried (others always fell off, especially in deep snow). I think having two Velcro closures on each sock has been key. I also prefer the soft shell ones as our B seems to accept them more and they don’t twist as much as the ones with a hard sole. Here are the ones I am referring to: https://rukkapets.com/paw-wear/thermal-shoes-black

My undergraduate degree was in geophysics with a minor in applied math. I name all my Basenjis after Indian mathematicians. My current Basenjis are Madhava of Sangamagrama (Madhava for short) and Bramagupta (Bramagupta for short). They do respond to their "short" names.
