  • @MacPack:

Hi Pennydog, I am in Tampa and we have a regular Sunday morning Basenji meet up at West Park, off Hillsborough Ave and Hesperdes. People get there between 10 and 11 and depending on the weather, will be there till 3-ish. Last Sunday we had 15 basenjis and a couple of b-mixes, all dogs are welcome!

Not a formal club, just folks with basenjis who like to visit and let the dogs play. We had a Thursday meet-up with Kaiah, who is 9 months old (and on Forum) and my 3 at Davis Island park and all had a great time. Lots of basenji activity here in Tampa.

So welcome to you and Penny Lane, on Forum and at the parks!

Thanks so much!! We'd love to come out and join you all. She gets along great with other dogs but we have yet to introduce her to any basenjis. We'll try to make it out this Sunday!

  • To those of you who asked, here are a few pics of Penny on my blog. She definitely favors the basenji side. We almost thought she might be full breed but her body is a little longer and her nose is slightly different than a true basenji. She's 10 lbs now at almost 7 months. Any guesses what she could be mixed with?? She's our little mystery mix for now :)

  • Oh my Pennydog is adorbale. So tiny compared to my Basenji mix! Congrats on the amazing rescue!

  • She is seriously adorable :) Thanks for the pictures…

  • Penny Lane is adorable - she looks very basenji in your pics on the blog. So glad you are happy with her. We look forward to meeting her on Sunday should you be able to get over to West Park with her.

  • Penny Lane is darling! Can't wait to meet her Sunday.

  • Wow, she is so cute! Thanks for the pictures.

  • what a cutie!!! You are lucky to have found each other and, based on your blog, she looks like she is settling in nicely. You will have lots of fun with that Tampa bunch. I was out there once upon a time and it was a blast!

  • And we would love to see you all again, Agile! Penny Lane will have fun with the youngsters.

  • Hello and welcome to the forum! PennyLane is sooooo cute! And majorly Basenji!!! Your blog gave a great story on how you found her too! Hope to meet you one day at West Park with MacPack and the gang- I live north of Tampa in Citrus County so I do not get to the park on Sundays too often-well worth your time if you can do it. You kinda get a rush with all the Basenjis running around and a great group of owners too!

  • I think we saw Penny Lane on Bayshore today! We noticed a cute 'short' basenji-looking dog and after we got home, I realized it must be Penny Lane.
Hope to actually meet you tomorrow.

  • Today it rained all over Tampa…except at the dog park! Only a few of us were there 11 till 2-ish, most were worried about the weather. It was just damp and muggy. Hope to see you and Penny another Sunday!

  • Could she be mixed with Bull terrier. That is what i thought when I saw her photos..lovely girl. Love the photo where she has the big smile and the one she is on her back twisted…
    GREAT !!

  • MacPack - Was it around 10-11 a.m? We were out there then :) We live very close by and I love taking her out to Bayshore to run her around. We usually try to go in the evenings after work so she can run out all that puppy energy :)

I'm so bummed we didn't make it today! We woke up to a downpour over here that didn't end until almost noon. We had planned on going, though! We took her to the Davis Island dog beach and she had a good time! If the weather is nice, we'll be at West Dog Park next Sunday! I'm so excited to introduce her to other basenjis!

Sharronhurlbut - a few other people have mentioned bull terrier as well, because of the nose. I can definitely see it but wondering if she'd be bigger since they get around 40-50 pounds? We're almost tempted to do a doggie DNA test to find out :)

LOL agile, Sayblee did yodel for me but much more for the spousal unit. Arwen doesn't do it at all and at 8 not likely to happen. Cara has had one almost yodel. :( She does musical yawns a lot though, and barks. Well more like boofs.

I look forward to your pictures. I'm a technophobe too - I keep telling myself I can do it but so far haven't posted any. One of my bitches was spoiled for the show ring by such a judge who didn't know how to approach a hound (although he was a Saluki judge and should have!). She was experienced at showing as well but was traumatised because when she backed away at his front on, silly voice approach she nearly fell from the table! Of course she blamed the fall on his approach. I worked on her intensively but to no avail. Yes, Basenjis on the whole are friendly and they never forget a friend either!

I sent you a private message with my info (phone number). We can arrange a visit. Also, when the weather cools down I'll let you know and you can come to a basenji pawtee! Laura

I live near the mountains in Colorado. There are some great trails with open space all around to let thme run around. Gosh I'm so jealous!! We don't have any plasce we could let our pooches loose. I would love a big open space sans any basenji prey :) that way they'll come back
