    Hello and greetings from (hot & humid) Philadelphia! I'm a new owner of a Basenji -Terrier mix. I hope you don't mind non 'pure-bred' members :) I look forward to learning from all of you. I've had Bailey for about a month and so far so good! She's shedding a lot and I've already found a good tip about the zoom groom from Kong….gonna try it out. Thanx!

    Thanks guys! I will be sure to get some pics out here by this weekend. Also, I used the Kong zoom-groom on Bailey last night and am amazed! The amount of dead hair that came off of her was enough to build another dog :) What a tool…and cheap too. Bailey is a rescue from the shelter where I volunteer and I can assume she was never groomed by her prior owner. She was found wondering the streets of North Philly on her own so it's safe to say she's in a better place now (currently lounging in my air conditioned apt with my cat Polly).

    I have to go read your link, but having been called to the shelter to see a chow that was an overweigh pomeranian, a rottweiler that was a lovely hound dog (Rottie rescue in FL told me keep quiet, they knew it wasn't a rottie but had a good home so just get it. I expected a LITTLE Rottweiler looking... bahahaha, no.)... vets who thought our basenjis were so many other things, not much surprises me.

    HI, we don't have many breeders in New Zealand but luckily there was one that had a website which came up when I did a search on the web and was given information about more breeders here. If you do find a breeder please make sure they are a responsible breeder and do all the health testing etc. Lot's of info on this forum regarding this and maybe someone can help further.     He's a hungry dog today. Gave him 1/2 cup in the morning and just a few minutes ago. He had no problem eating. I'm much more happy that he's eating now. He likes his bone as well. Not too much into the Kong yet. I just wish he didn't cry in his crate when I put him in there. Feel bad for him but I know it just takes adjusting. He is perfectly fine when I return home after he's been in there awhile. It's just the initial time. To be honest though, this transition went far better than I expected. I was prepared for the worst. This little guy has done very well.

    It was actually the vet tech wasn't the most brilliant thing on the planet… needless to say I found another vet the next week and they think she might have some bulldog in her... what a mix. I believe that she definitely could have some bulldog in her judging by the way she lays around the house.

    Remember however for a full thyroid panel usually isn't done at places that do bloodwork… and also what a Vet would call "low normal" for most dogs, for a Basenji it is Too Low...

    i found the only thing that gets Sandies attention now days is a rolled news paper… i dont hit her with it, just the site of it and me slapping it against my legg, usually makes her stop what ever she is doing...usually its nothing major... chasing the cats...or if she just wont stop beating me up after we play...
