    Hi everyone!

    We just picked up our new girl yesterday from Texas (I still have to sit and type up a intro on the welcome thread ;) and of course we're looking for a basenji friendly and knowledgable vet asap. Willing to drive to see a good one (ie Mesa? Gilbert? whatever it takes) We're in the Phoenix, Paradise Valley, Scottsdale area….

    I don't know of any because it's been a long time since we've lived in Phoenix. But you might try contacting Bev to find out who she uses. She may also have other recommendations.

    @kjdonkers Yes, or at least a confined area with a potty pad set up or potty station. Then if she HAS to go, no disaster.

    Hi, Lots of good advice here already. For the time being: I found in the Animal Desk Reference Manual (Essential Oils for Animals) by Melissa Shelton under Giardia on page 417 a list of possible remedies. One that you may have access to is Clove oil - you can put a drop or two in her water daily or in her food. Essential oils are very effective against parasites.

    Check with Iris Craven, Kasai Basenjis. She is in Maryland and might know of a vet in your area… and also might be able to help you with the IPSID dx. She is a long-time Basenji breeder and has been around to see many many things happen in Basenjis.

    Here rnasto@gmail.com We would love some information since we dont have any. The job is with SAIC in Hampton Roads, VA but I don't know where my job will be, so I guess we will just have to pray its not across a tunnel somewhere.

    @etzbseder: While I've got people looking at this, my B also has a minor umbilical hernia, I was wondering, how big of an issue is it, and should I get him fixed. Do the potential problems get overweighed by the benefits? That is usually not a big deal. The majority of Basenjis are born with umbilical hernias. Should you get him fixed? As in neutered? Yes. Should you get the hernia fixed? They could do it when they neuter him if it bothers you…but it isn't a health concern unless it is quite big.
