Another "Does Anyone Know this Breeder?"

Breeder Talk
  • @dcmclcm4:

I saw an ad from someone in Cypress, TX for CKC B pups. The area code was 713 which is a Houston area code. I do not know if the ad was current though. This breeder may be Mary Alaniz. Is anyone familiar with her? Her ad has CKC as her affiliation!

How did CKC Bs get so popular and why would anyone want to buy a pup if they are not health tested at least for Fanconi?

The OH Amish breeders also have/had CKC registered Bs.

I bought my pup from Mary Alaniz. She said his parents had been tested. He will be a year old in 5 days. So far no health problems. She was very nice and told me if I have any questions or need advice to contact her. I researched the breed and breeders for over a year before I bought one. I think if the dogs are well bred (in terms of genetics) and are healthy that it is oK if they are not AKC registered, especially if you are not interested in showing and are going to have them fixed anyways. Also, her dogs are pets to her, not just a dollar sign, she seems to really care about them, they live in her house, unlike some breeders who keep dogs in kennels.

Good to hear. I bought my Basenji from her a couple years back as well. I got the runt of that litter (the last one left) but she's doing just fine.

@Janneke: I enjoy your pics sooo much..! And I just LOVE this one.. this is the other girl right? http://astheniabasenji.rajce.idnes.cz/C_litter_2/#16.1.2010_85_.JPG Hmm… if I click on the link now.. I don't see the pic.. But I mean the one of I think Cibitoke on your/someones hand yawning.. :) Super cute :D I know what pic you mean :). Yes, it is Cibitoke i my sister's hand. Adults are great, Masai and Buju are still in "puppy area". Masai takes care of puppies so carefully and his behaviour often looks like HE gave birth to puppies, not Abanda :D. Today we are taking a stack pics, so then I'll upload that here.

I just happen to notice this thread. Anyone that has 224 adult dogs and 39 puppies on 3/30/11 does not raise wonderful, loving, behaved pets. She is a USDA licensed breeder in Portis, KS who sells puppies to petstores. When a USDA inspector refers to the place where the dogs are kept at as a shed and the area where the dogs live at as pens, specifically top row, then one knows the conditions her dogs are living in. @Quercus: http://www.pedigrees.zandebasenjis.com/ Did you try here, above? Can you put the sire and dam's numbers into the ACA website? Or is there a number to actually talk to someone, maybe they could help you more? I would think that since you have the litter number, the ACA could help you, if you could talk to a human…. I contacted the ACA last Friday and was told I had to prove that Tippy was a rescue by faxing such documentation. I sent that information in, similar to the info shown in the original post above, including BRAT documentation accordingly. Then, yesterday, I followed up with ACA and was told that a supervisor made the determination that they could'nt help me unless BRAT issued an ACA registration application to me. Then I contacted a few BRAT board members and one answered saying they've never had seen nor heard of such a thing. I'm beginning to feel like the ACA is trying to hide something, something to the effect that they are really a "false marketing front" for the profit-making pet industry. A couple of very nice basenji-loving folks have stepped forward to try to help track down potential puppy mill/pedigree information, but if they are not successful, I wonder how I can convince the ACA that my interest in Tippy's pedigree is purely medical and to support the Fanconi research efforts? Does anyone think it would help if I told the ACA that Tippy is already neutered (as BRAT requires for all their rescues)? I don't necessarily want to register him at all, but if that's what it takes to get his pedigree, I will do it.

Yes, Arlene, you do need at some point to take a stand and trust what you see and what you like… Breeding comes down to that in the end.... And with a bitch that is only 1 1/2 yrs looking down from the top is not a very good judge... IMO... reason?... They are not mature yet... and they shouldn't be.... their ribs have not even "sprung" at this age.. again IMO.... I would be hard pushed to say a dog is "wider" in the front then the rear at this age by just looking down on them.... again IMO.... Here is a link to 3 pictures of Kobey, 6wks, 3 months and 5 1/2 months... everything I saw on this pup at 6 wks that I liked (and that is a bit early then the 8 wks usually used for evaluating pups) I still see... but there are differences while growing... Now granted this pup is one of the few that has yet to really fall apart with a growing spurt... And also the faults that I saw at 6wks are still there too..... www.tanzabasenjis.net/kobeygrowing.html
