  • About time!!!

  • Now if Washington State would do the same thing! Of course, I can have our dog(s) vaccinated in Arizona when we're there for the winter…Arizona has a 3-year rabies vaccine.

  • Good to hear the news. I wish the government here would bring in 3 year vaccination.

Washington state does allow for a 3 year vaccine, see below:

WASHINGTON STATE (NO medical exemption) – WAC 246-100-196 Rabies Preliminary Draft February 22, 2010 http://www.doh.wa.gov/ehp/ts/Zoo/draft246-100-196.pdf

    (3) An owner of a dog, cat, or ferret shall have it vaccinated against rabies and revaccinated following veterinary and vaccine manufacture instructions. This requirement does not apply to animal shelters.

Chapter 16-54 WAC Animal Importation 16-54-068 Restrictions. http://apps.leg.wa.gov/WAC/default.aspx?dispo=true&cite=16-54&full=true

    (4) Dogs, cats, and ferrets must be accompanied by an entry permit and proof of current rabies vaccination if they originate from a rabies quarantined area or an area where the state or country of origin has designated terrestrial rabies as endemic.

That's an interesting piece of information.

We just moved back to Washington State this year after being gone for 25 years. We have an SOB (Some Other Breed, i.e., not a Basenji) dog that we took to a vet here and she gave her only a 1-year vaccine, so I just assumed… .

It's sort of a moot point for us, though, because we will normally be in Arizona at the time the rabies vaccine comes due again, so we'll just have her vaccinated there, as well as any Basenji we get.

By the way, I couldn't get the first link to come up...keep getting a "can't find" message.

  • We've been doing three year Rabies Vaccines for a while now? At least more than 3 years. Our protocol was that once a dog or cat gets a rabies if thay have it done again within 365days then it is now considered a 3yr.

Sorry read it wrong. So now owners don't have to have a rabies vaccine every year? Just every three years.

After the 2 puppy shots ( provided the 2nd one is done with a 3 year rabies vaccine), dog owners in Waco will only be required to have their dogs vaccinated once every 3 years.

Yes,,,,I know I need to change my name,,,,,,,thank goodness the "kids" havent seen it yet or they may think I only love two of the three of them,,,,,ha ha. Also, we have thought about fostering a BRAT dog. I am a teacher so I have the summers free. We decided to wait until after the spring though to sign up because my son is a senior and I am afraid the spring will be to crazy to try to help a BRAT dog that may have some issues. However, we would be open to the transporting. BTW , Senji, we are going to the Northwest part of IL (about 25 miles from Iowa) soooooooooooooo if you want us to make Czar our first transport that can be arranged!!! :)
