  • Hello–
We have a basenji pup (5 mo. old) named Obi. We live in the San Francisco Bay area (east bay) and would love to find a lure course for Obi. Can anyone help us? Pictures of Obi to come. Thank you, Judith & Jay

  • Welcome to the forum! Don't know anything about lure coursing in your area, but I'm sure someone on this forum can help you :)

    Enjoy!

  • Hello and welcome to the forum:D

  • Welcome. I would think there would be something in your area. I look forward to seeing pictures of Obi.

  • The Basenji Club of Northern California's puppy match and lure trials are coming up May 30 and 31st in Livermore, CA. They will be held at Robertson Equestrian Center in Livermore. More information is available at http://www.norcalbasenjis.org

Before then there is ASFA lure trials in Hollister May 2 and 3 and a racing/coursing 3 day event in Sacramento over Memorial Day weekend.

Practices are available at the end of lure trials usually and between race programs.

  • There are also trials this weekend in Gilroy… your pup is to young to compete, but just the right age to practice and see what it is all about....

And for sure considering coming to the BCONC puppy match and lure trials. The match, practice and trial for Basenjis only is on Saturday May 30th. We will be having a general membership meeting also... all guests welcome. And along with all that, a pot luck lunch

    Hope to see you there

Who did you get your pup from?

  • Thank you for your information. We got our Basenji from a nephew who got him from the Santa Barbara Humane Society. My nephew was unable to have a pup afterall, and we're delighted we have Obi. The litter of pups (three of them) were taken to the Society. I don't know who the parents are.

Well welcome to the world of Basenjis… you might want to think about doing the Fanconi DNA test since you don't have any information on his sire and dam.. you can learn about the test at www.basenjihealth.org

And I hope to see you at our Puppy Match/Lure trial end of May…

And we love to see pictures

@abonnard Pee pads got me through in the end, she would pee every 20 mins for the first months, then 40 mins, then she suddenly went to being able to hold it for many hours. One of the best purchases I got before she arrived was a small carpet washer, saved my sanity. The cleanup is so key otherwise they go back to the same spot.

@basenjilovers - She is very cute, please make sure that DNA testing was done for Fanconi and PRA. And if not or you are not sure, you can get the test kits at www.ofa.org. You do the test as it is a cheek swab.

@Chrstopher: Quick question on this Fanconi Test? Does it show if he has it or does it just determine if he is a carrier for it? It will show if he is clear, carrier, or affected.
