Hi Everyone;
After 12 great years of being owned by a Basenji Lab Cross, I have taken the plunge and brought home a purebred tri female. We have named her Bassit (Ilicano for 'Little Bit') and we're already deeply in love with her!
Our 12 year old seems to be tolerating the new Interloper fairly well (so long as baby stays far away from the biscuit cupboard) and we're coping pretty well with the new family member, who is about 4 1/2 months.
Only little hiccup so far is that our Bassit apparently doesn't like it when I go to work. My downstairs neighbour called this morning at 7 a.m. to tell me that she'd been howling for a half-hour straight since I left. She seemed quite happy in her crate when we left her for short periods over the weekend, so I'm confused as to how she knew that I'd be gone for a few hours today! I'm hoping that if I peruse the forums I'll find some methods to make her first few days on her own a bit more tolerable (at least for the people in the basement)

Welcome to our pack!
Even though you've done a few periods of being away, it still is a shock to her to have you disappear. She might need to have something like a snuggleme buddy (warm pack you can put in the microwave) to keep her company and definitely lots of toys (especially interactive ones) to keep her busy. Are you keeping her in a kennel/crate or an x-pen?
Also are you gone for the whole day? 8 or 9 hours is a long time for such a young pup. Perhaps you can arrange some vacation time so you don't disappear for so long right at the start. Have you thought about doggy day care? -
Welcome, you will find lots of good info here to help you out.

mia always hated her cage. even when we were there. (and trying to sleep..:mad:) needless to say i spent many sleepless nights or nights asleep on the floor with my hand in her cage:o i got advice on here to cover the cage with towels or a blanket so its dark .. i dont know if that would work during the day or not though.
