• Congo gets a bath about once every 3-5 months unless he gets very dirty. Most of the time I use doggy wipes and they condition his coat so its shiny too. This summer he had hives so I had to give him oatmeal baths more often.

  • Ewww! Oatmeal and Dog Hair in the bathtub! LOL:D

  • No the mess was bad but we did it in our guest bathroom. Thats the only thing that works for him besides giving him benadryl which sedates him so I only give that to him at night.

  • Poor guy - do you know what causes his allergies?

I haven't been brave enough to bathe mine yet, just did them with Baby Wipes for the first time yesterday and was suprised that they seemed ok with that. Also used Adams Flea and Tick mist because they seem to be picking up fleas at the dog park - and they were oddly ok with that too. I figured a squirt bottle would raise flags, but they were fine.

  • @sharronhurlbut:

Bathing a basenji is like bathing a cat…
    IMO.
    I use baby wipes myself.
    Makes us all happy

LOL, I don't know.. My two B's do just fine, but when I had to bathe my previous cat due to a tangle with a skunk, THAT was hell!! I made it out alive, but was actually bleeding!

  • I BET you were bleeding!
Oh, heavens, what a mess that must have been.
    Hugs all around.

  • I give kiro a bath every month….. in the shower with me.... with special doggie shampoo and conditioner... and then she gets wrapped up in her princess robe. 🙂 so adorable.... she is spoiled BIG time.

I bathe her before i apply her monthly advantix.

  • I don't bathe Ruby or Brando unless they get into something.

Both my b kids are great walking in the rain, and I figure that happens often enough that they are getting a bath each time. This summer, it has rained so much (nearly every day) and they have actually been out in major downpours (those aren't their favourite, but they'll still go for a walk in it). They don't put up any fuss at all about the rain. Their coats are beautiful and they smell good so I figure, why bathe them.

When Ru was sick last fall, I had to bathe her to get poo off her…she was fine with the bath though. I found it was much easier to do it with a large pitcher of water instead of running the water.

  • I never bathe Tosca either…we have had her an year and a half and she has only had one "real" bath. I brought her in to get her nails trimmed and had it done. Anything else has just been a rubbing down of her legs and underside if we go on a walk and she gets a bit muddy. It is very hard to get her in the bath to do even that, so I can't imagine how a real bath would go!

  • Scarlett gets about 10 baths a year. Most of those are once a month from March to October…what can i say the deep south only as two seasons and the other 2 are around the holidays, before long trips. The summer baths are in a wash tub in the yard with watering can and hose...she loves these because she watches the other dogs get one first. The winter baths are a bit rougher, the bathroom is horrible after those. But luckily these only happen twice one before driving to my parents house and one before coming home. Definitely don't want to be stuck in a small space with a smelly dog for long trips!

  • Ours get a bath 6-7 times a year, sometimes less. Much of it depends on how muddy the spring is and how long the 2 major sheds last (in spring they look more like they're molting, patch by patch). We now have a slipper tub (claw foot some call it) so that cuts down on the splashing like we used to have in a regular tub.

Pre-bath time is like plotting a covert operation. One of us distracts the dogs, while the other preps the bathroom (I swear they can recognize their bath towels and shampoo bottles and they certainly know when the rugs and curtains are protected it's time to–in the words of Monty Python--RUN AWAY, RUN AWAY!!!!)

Both are confined to the bathroom. Ty goes in the tub first while Katie whines, moans and roos as if we're trying to kill her brother. Ty is slipped out the door, races the B500 round and round, then remembers sissy is now in the tub, so proceeds to sit outside the bathroom door until her release from the basenji torture chamber.

When we remodeled, we did so with the dogs bath time in mind. There's one item I would suggest to anyone that has to bathe a dog, look into the English Telephone hand held shower …. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51oEaJcAQ6L.SL500.jpg
we also have an overhead shower, but this little addition has been a life saver when it comes to dog baths.

  • Mine are lucky (unless for a show) if they get a bath 2x's a year… and I use this in the tub/shower with doors on the shower and the tub, so they can't escape... ggg..

Rinse Ace Pet Shower - you can find it at most on line catalogs, this is from KVET http://www.kvvet.com
