A special 'dog forrest'

  • Today we went to a forrest that has a fenced part for dogs. It is huge.. so you still have to look for your dog if he takes off.. but… It is a nice feeling that they are 'somewhere' between the fences.
    Here some pictures.

  • Great photos and how wonderful to have an area where they can run and be contained.

  • What an AMAZING experience this must have been…thank you so much for the pictures. :)

  • That is ssoooooooo nice. beautiful pictures…. you ae so lucky to have that!!!! we dont even have a dog park in my county!!!!

This is the one of the few (if it's not the only one) fenced areas for dogs in the Netherlands.. and it's not 'around the corner' for us.. but yes, it's really nice and definitly worth the drive!

  • KiroGurl, you may have to start an organization to push for the development of dog parks in your city/county. Here in Knoxville, TN we use to have 0 dog parks. We now have two with two more in the planning stages. A young lady that moved here from ??? started a group, went to the city and pushed until she at least got the land provided for a dog park. IN the beginning the volunteers with the group had to do the upkeep (mowing, garbarge removal {and we know what dogs leave as garbage - don't we} etc.). Now the city does the upkeep and the parks are very popular. One of our two current dog parks is at PetSafe Village and the owner of that company donated $500,000 for the development of more dog parks in Knoxville/Knox County!! Thank dog for him!!! There is a story in the August issue of Southern Living on PetSafe Village.

  • Looks like fun. The dog park near me isn't nearly as nice. :(

Yes, Bungwa will toss any of his toys into the air and catch them but definitely will not catch anything I throw. He has no competition because the others just look and say 'Boooring'!!! Interesting about your best hunters being fetchers, Quercus. I wonder if there's a reason in it or whether it's a coincidence!?

Ono is a Hawaiian word, used to describe something that is 'the best' AND happens to be very basenji appropriate :) We hesitated naming her something that so strongly resembled 'no' but we don't use 'no' very much in our training, we say 'hey' to get their attention and then give them another cue to follow when we are redirecting their behaviour. The pups love the huge costco bed, and I love the great cedar smell :)

Fleece also makes great dog blankets. Again, for the non-sewers, just cut and don't worry about the edges. There are lots of patterns on line where the edges are tied in knots or just fringed. One or two layer fleece blankets. Cheap, machine washable, and lots of colors to choose from. (Just don't iron it!!!)
