    Did anyone see the dog show last night? The Basenji finally made the judge's first cut in the hound group! First time I've ever seen that happen.

    That was amazing…he was a gorgeous boy. I'm watching the breed selection video now and all those dogs are beautiful! Of all the B's in the breed video, number 9 (little girl) a tri beauty who stopped to scratch an itch during judging, number 16 (little girl) a black and white, and number 18 (little boy) a red and white are my favorites.They were all beautiful, but those really stuck in my mind. What I found so amusing is that number 9 the one that scratched her itch was the best of breed for our little angels. She did a wonderful job and showed beautifully. She was a great representative of this breed!

    If the dogs are having similar symptoms as in the previous years, they need to be treated ASAP! It is my understanding that many are developing the acquired Fanconi Syndrome and need to be put on the protocol. Many vets though do not have the equipment to do the venous blood gas test and get an accurate diagnosis. Emergency vets should have the equipment. Do not buy any dog treats that come from China and if the package does not state where it is from then do not buy it! Jennifer

    @Nemo: Yep you can use a clicker for that too. I used a clicker to help me touch both of my dogs mouths, to brush their teeth, look at their teeth, touch their feet, hold their head, etc. when needed. I'll give it a try - maybe I can find a different clicker, one with a softer pop. It's funny sometimes how the cookie crumbles - I can't show Trinity, yet she's the one who lets me get right in her face, in her mouth, stands still when I want to inspect her…:p

    The only sweat glands on a dog are on the feet. They keep their foot pads supple, but also sent mark the trail. I actually like the way goober smells.     Yes I agree Pat, Fort Funston could get very crowded and dangerous for smaller dogs as packs of bigger dogs playing could cause injury. My 2 Basenjis were very good and stayed pretty close to me and got used to the crowds. The only problem I had there was with this lady who had an older Tri color female Basenji. It would bite my blk/wht, Nika who was 1-1/2 on the butt. A few times of that and I stayed way away from her. The problem is Nika was a very playful girl and never did anything like that. A few times of getting nipped on the butt started her doing it to other dogs and Basenjis. A Basenji would want to play and Nika would chase and give a nip and the the other dog would get mad and a fight would occur. Nobody would ever get hurt thankfully. It was rare that it would happen as I took them there for 9 years, mostly on the weekend without problem. We had a lot of fun and people loved the Basenjis! Ringo, the red/wht was a very entertaining clown when we'd go down to the beach.
