• I think I remember a previous thread about this subject but I was just curious to see how many B's really do this. Yesterday morning I was leaving for work and Trixie got to stay out as my daughter did not have school yesterday. As I was heading towards the door the little booger bit me in my but. Not hard but it shocked me. I turned around to scold her and she bit my shirt and started tugging on it. I sat down and loved on her a little bit and told her I had to go. This is something new with her! She will often whine when someone leaves but she has never bit anyone. Just curious to see is anyone else's B does this.

  • Well…uh, I hate to tell you this, but she will probably do it again. She wanted your attention and she totally got it 🙂

Next time I would try loving her up before you get ready to leave, that way she might not feel the need to nip you to get you to pause before going out the door!

  • Oh yeah, they will get your attention one way or another. I've seen our's do this to us or visitors that I guess didn't greet them enough or pay them enough attention. We always let them know that is unacceptable. Don't let it escalate to something worse.

  • Dallas hasn't bitten me on the butt because I'm leaving but he's done it when we've been playing around. My boyfriend & I like to tickle, jump on each other, etc & since we've had Dallas he sees us playing & wants to join in & ends up nipping at us in the process. We usually correct him then settle down ourselves. These basenjis…anything for the attention they so desparately crave!

We have about 10 minutes where I hug and give kisses and pet her every morning. I guess she was just not ready yesterday morning to see me go. We do have some separation anxiety issues with her!! She gets kind of panicky when my husband and I leave her with our kids. They can usually distract her by playing with her. Dont' get me wrong I did scold her for doing that, and actually I thought it was funny. It did not hurt in any way, she did not do it hard or agressive, just a soft nip!!

Hey by the way, cute pictures at the dog park!! He is growing up so fast!!! I thought I read something about you might be getting another in Jan.? I have tried to contact your breeder because I am interested in getting a male! Let me know if she is going to have more puppies!! I am interested and I don't think she is too horribly far for us to get to!

Thanks 🙂 They certainly do grow up fast! I was comparing the dogpark pictures with the ones from the day we brought him home & he has basically doubled in size. Where did my tiny little puppy go?!?! LOL.

And yea we are looking into getting a girl in January, talking to a few breeders at the moment. I haven't completely convinced the boyfriend yet but I'm working on it 😉 He wants another one just doesn't know if he wants it so soon. Plus he thinks it's too early to decide since we wouldn't get her until Jan of 2009. We'll see though 🙂 He usually gives in…haha.

Finally, I wouldn't expect Midge to have a litter this year only because she only breeds when she wants to keep a puppy for herself & she ended up keeping 2 pups from Dallas' litter since the people who wanted the female changed their minds after she was 10 weeks old! By then Midge said she couldn't part with her. But I have Midge's number & information if you don't & if she isn't having a litter I know she'd be able to recommend other breeders in our area. 🙂

That would be great if you could get me her phone number! Thanks

  • Captain Jack, my basenji, tends to bite me or my husband on the butt when we come back from the bathroom. It is almost like he is herding us- he really doesn't like us to be in different rooms, so when one of us comes out of the bathroom he nips after us until we are all together again. Which I think is really weird, since they are hunting dogs. But, just like everyone else said, it isn't hard, and it doesn't hurt. I usually correct him and then move on.

  • Trixie has started pulling on my husbands and mine shirts in the same way. I have not been bitten lately but she is just so weird sometimes!! Trixie seems to like to have the entire family in the living room and all attention on her!
