The whole time, she was handling the puppy gently, speaking kind words, telling them "good boy" etc the whole time. (see Andrew's letter in thread) In all fairness, I agree and I will put out an apology to Wanda, I retract any negative comments about her, her status in the community of showing and handling of dogs, or in any way harm her reputation. But to everything and everyone there exists a personal and subjective viewpoint. I know that handling dogs 'unnaturally' but in a positive manner only helps with their adaptation of our lives that we subject them to….I agree with Basenjimanna, Sharon about Andrew's comment. I do not have much experience in show life. Yes, I have witnessed some dogs that thrive on it, and I have watched dogs that the owner is only in it for themselves, pride, and prestige and have little concern for the dog as an entity. (Show Dog-ing can open up a whole new forum), so I may not agree with EVERY aspect of showing dogs, but it does not make it immoral or unnatural or wrong for the dogs, just not for me, but on the other hand, I do enjoy watching the televised version of an AKC show.... Refer again to personal preferences and discussion forums, I am grateful to accept your perspectives as it has enhanced my understanding of how I can misjudge an intent (the video.) Thank you for the well written response. (yeah for forums and open minds....)

@irena: Yes it is Jenson's granddaughter :D. Actually I don't know why he got VG, he was nice judgement and there weren't written nothing so bad….. whooppieeee it means to me that Jenson really inherited very very very well!! I am very pleased with that, means he is worthy as a stud! I hate critiques like that, sometimes it really makes no sense :-(

Our Breed Council organises breed seminars in the UK for aspiring judges which they have to pass to progress up the judging lists (I was an assessor at the last one and am a KC approved judge for Basenjis). The colours are definitely gone through thoroughly and we try to have representatives of at least the main four colours, though the brindles and especially blacks are very thin on the ground and Ruby and Bryn have done sterling service as colour reps! At the last seminar there were examples of both regular and barred tris. At the moment we have no recessive blacks in the show ring and rarely do, but the colour is mentioned in the presentation with an explanation of how it tends to change with age. There has not been a trindle shown here to the best of my knowledge so we have yet to tackle that thorny issue. The BC presentation emphasises clear, rich, well-demarcated colours. Naturally some judges see colour as more of a priority than others. I do try to ensure that there is a b/w at the seminars if at all possible, as many upcoming judges may never have seen one and probably never gone over one.

Thanks for the video link. Win or lose it's always wonderful to watch our breed in the ring….such dignity and grace, especially when there is a mandatory sit and scratch on the agenda:D

Cool! You got some good ones in there. I'm excited to go someday now. You only get a glimpse of basenjis if you're lucky on the televised shows. Thanks for sharing.
