Tiggy's Got a Cold *Update*

    He started vomiting last night and did it through the night and this morning so I took him to work with me in the morning and then to the vet at lunch time. He's got a bug that is going around :( poor guy, he's doing better and has only vomited once since the vet. At the vet they gave him some antibiotics and something to help ease his stomach. I think he got it from when I took him to the vet last week for a rabies shot. If he's not better by Saturday morning he goes back.

    One thing is I know he's gonna love his light dinner of chicken, rice and cottage cheese.

    She said he had a slight fever, but nothing serious. Are basenji's normal temperatures different than other dogs? I ask because other things seem to be different on them. I took in a stool sample to and that was fine.

    It's not contagious to cats, but I do need to keep an eye on Reggie.

    hope ur baby feels better. give him somee extra TLC and i'm sure he'll be fine

    Thank you. He's a little more mellow but other than that acting normal, curious about people in the kitchen still, lol.

    **Thank you everyone, he seemed this morning to be oing much better, he didn't throw up again after dinner or at all during the night. You could still tell he wasn't feeling good but I put his sweater on him and he curled up either under a blankie with me or by the heater, and when we went to bed he stayed snuggled up to me all night.

    This morning he was a little more chiper, ate his breakfast with normal gusto, pooped (good sign). Still a little blah but over all good.**

    Glad to hear Tiggy is doing ok. Hope he's all better real soon.

    Good news. After finishing a 14 day course of antibiotics, using antifungal/antibacterial wipes, and a switch in food, Mojo's toes are almost back to normal. Fingers (and toes) crossed that whatever he had doesn't come back.     To each their own opinion Debra, I am working with Oakley on other issues right now and at twenty nine months he is still maturing. I don't live my life by the "what ifs", as of right now I'm able to be with him all the time when I'm not working so yes, I cater to his wanting to be around me, it's not rewarding for me to have a dog that's not independent of me, but it's the reality..and until I'm ready to address it 100% I haven't…he has made significant progress in crating and barrier frustrations...so I'm happy with the progress, and frankly..these other issues needs to be dealt with before addressing this...in order to make me leaving him with others successful. He's a happy, healthy young boy with a complex and stubborn mind, I'm going to work with him and not fight him on evolving and adapting his behaviors. However, your concern is noted and appreciated.

    How are UTI's caused?

    Anytime I have a dog that has a UTI, I add extra water to their food. I also give Cranberry pills. I sometimes give Vitamin C but that is based on the ph level of the urine and the recommendation of the vet. My dogs rarely have crystals but perhaps I catch the UTIs early. It seems like rescues I get from shelters almost always have UTIs. I think they get it from either holding it too long because they do not want to get their kennel dirty or because they eat dry food and drink water separately. Jennifer

    @tanza: Not to put any pressure on you or the Vet.. but to me… blood work is one of the most important tools.... and I am surprised that at least even with an appointment next week ... that they didn't take blood while he was there.... If it was me... and I am a "freak" about doing blood panels.. I would have insisted on at least that..... Thanks for letting me know. As Booger & Lola are my first "grown up" dogs (my parents took care of sick dogs growing up & we never had many issues until 1 got cancer), I really honestly don't know all the things I should be looking for or asking about. I will definitely call & ask about that. Booger does seem a LOT better today than he did yesterday, which is good. I don't take this as much of a sign of anything, but it at least makes me feel better knowing he isn't so miserable. He's a lot perkier & more playful. He gave us some playful baroos earlier, too, which is a rare treat!
