Lots more information needed here. As Debra asked, how old? How long have you had this dog? Is this a new behaviour and if so how recently has it appeared? What training have you done with this dog? IMO, it isn't unusual for a Basenji to object to doing something it doesn't want to do (or when asked to cease doing something it does want to do!), but usually this will be only a grumble and if it has escalated to biting or threatening to bite you need to deal with it, and if you aren't confident then you need help from a qualified trainer.

In my opinion puppy humping is just a natural thing - lambs do it too. Yes it may be a dominance issue, I'm not sure. They usually grow out of it if and irt's quite easy to gently discourage them but above all don't make an issue of it.

I was very interested on finding out that the horse harnesses are good for our basenjis expecially the ones with a bit of metal chain at the end, so as not to let our doggies chew through the lead, I took Duna out for a country walk and a seaside walk too off leash. She defenetly chooses who to hear when calling her to come…ME!!!!! She's a good girl till she meets other dogs, then becomes deaf!!! I tried runnig away and it workrd for the country walk, where as at the sea, what with the wind noise and wave noise, she just didnt turn to control me and took off for a distance with a big abandoned german sheperd mix!!! So i had to chase her because i new she was in trance and hipnotised by this big black dog that we were shooing to go away and that Duna was following!!! Little Stinker!!!!

Or the other sure fire method for my kids is to open a car door and yell "go for a ride"…. Of course that would do me no good now, since Kristii in her elder years is a deaf as a door knob.....

Has he had a full medical check up? Especially a full Thyroid panel done? I really would doubt that his being neutered has anything to do with it… certainly I have never heard of that before.... but I would first get a full medical done (including an eye exam with a Ophth), with full blood work and full thyroid panel (which typically must be sent out separate from normal blood work that your Vet might do) and then contact a behaviorist to work with him (and the family).

@khanis: BABY GATES for what purpose?? My boys would simply laugh at me if I thought that they could possibly keep them from a bitch in season!! One boy we had (thankfully not in my own house) was a total escape artist and I'd put him in a vari-kennel inside of a wire crate that was clped all around it closed! I found putting the boys in the escape-proof dog run outdoors works peachy…. girls can be indoors in crates... this will be the first year in a while I will have had to deal with bitches in season that actually live in my house... so it shall be fun I am sure :) Well if nothing else you will remember why you had only same sex before! …ggg
