Basenji's on Wine Labels- Need your help

    I just sent Pearmund Winery an email to see if I can have them ship me some bottles here in CA–not sure if that's going to be possible--but I just love the labels. There's a red and a white wine.

    It looks like they carry it in the Harris Teeter in this area, I am going to head there after work tomorrow and try to find it. It would be great to give that as a Christmas gift to our neighbors who love wine and watch Chase and Zahra for us!

    The wine labels were for Sid and Sue Sher (of Va)… and their Basenjis, Kugawa Basenjis. The winery is Pearmund, Chris and LIsa Pearmund and as I understand the winery was voted Virginia's most popular. Sid and Sue used to live here in California and are great friends of many of us here in No. Cal... they moved to Va about 10yrs ago (I think) when Sid was transferred. Both are now retired.. still breeding and showing their Basenjis... A local artist, Linda Hendrickson painted a puppy that Sid and Sue placed with Chris and Lisa... and the Pearmund's decided to make a wine in his honor... and use the painting for the label...

    Yes, I know about Pearmund- but there were three other bottles of wine that were auctioned together. These were different labels… Sid & Sue got the ones from Pearmund; they emailed me last night. So we're all still looking!! :) They thought Laura Gilcrest brought the wine this year...?

    Okay, Harris Teeter here did not carry the Basenji label the Redmund's Reserve. :( Darn Harris Teeter, I am calling the winery and just ordering it from them. BDawg, they should not be that far from you are they? I know you are looking for a different label too though, right?

    Bdawg-have you tried emailing LeeBeth or Iris?? They would probably know where they wine came from. They had the same bottles at the Fun Match in June too! Unfortunately I didn't get to win them either :(

    I would definitely call any of the distributors before you go to the actual store… It will save you a trip if they don't carry that particular bottle.

    I am still working on getting information about the other wine. Liz is the one with the info... Hopefully I'll get an email tonight... :)

    I got the single bottle of wine. The three pack went too high for me. The label says Happy Hound Cabernet Sauvignon California 2004. All the back label says is a fine wine from Sonoma California and then the warning. There is no winery listed. I searched all over the internet when I got home hoping to score some more of this but have had no luck.

    The other winery - Pearmund is a very nice place to visit, and buy some wine, of course :)

    Oh, I forgot, the single bottle I got had the same kind of label as the three pack so I'm assuming it's from the same winery. I have a lot of wine in my basement and all of them have the winery name on them. Strange that this one doesn't. Unless Happy Hound is the name of the winery…...

    You can make your own custom wine label… Then you can put your B's pics on it... You can save money by buying any wine (even 1) then sticking your own custom wine label on it...

    Here's one place to get instructions (in there, scroll down to "wine labels") on how to create your own wine label… For the paper, you'll need a full-sheet sticker paper (that's compatible with your printer i.e. deskjet, inkjet, etc)... You can get it at an office supply store (Office Depot, Staples, etc)...

    It's pretty easy and a fun project --> with your B helping you out! :D

    Good idea - make your own labels. That way, you can pick your favorite wine and serve your guests. It'll show them your B(s) have good taste and class. ;)

    I got an email back from Pearmund Winery. They will ship here to CA. I'm going to call tomorrow and order some red and white. I am not a wine drinker myself–but this will be great for when I have guests over. I'll tell them Tyler and Zoey picked the wine :D

    I called and ordered two boxes of the Redmund's Candy Cane box which is one bottle of red and one bottle of white with a candy cane and you save $5 because seperate they are $15.00 each. They are going to make great presents for our neighbors and the dog sitter.

    When I called the woman I spoke with asked me if it was normal for a Basenji to hunt deer because Redmund their Basenji had gone after a doe and shortly after that he went after a buck! :eek:

    I told her to check out the Basenji Forum, hopefully she will join :)

    That sounds great for Xmas!! I'm glad you mentioned that. One of my gifts will be going to Karen and Chuck (don't anyone tell them!) who have the basenji rescue shelter in SoCal. I got Tyler and Zoey from them earlier this year. I already have a cute photo in a frame that has painted on it–Tyler and Zoey Together Forever--but this wine will be a fun gift too.

    I heard them talking about that at the party. The Basenji didn't kill the deer, but almost. They had to have the deer put down.

    Don't ever underestimate a Basenji.;)

I used to have 3 basenjis who would go nuts on leash if they saw another dog or huntable critter. They would bite anything (including eachother) in the heat of their excited frustration. I had this with my two Basenji girls.....it's transferred aggression.....if you can't bite the one you want to bite, bite the one you're with! Agree, keep the cat and dog away from each other, although with the best of intentions, sh*t happens and critters manage to get where they should not be. One of the reasons I think "no" is the second most important word in a dog's vocabulary (after "come"). As such, IMO it should be reserved for important situations and always be enforced. It means "stop what you are doing right now!" And yes, there are instances where you might want to raise your voice. Again, done only when it is important, this can be effective. Do not poison your important control words. Use them only when you mean it and make sure you are obeyed. For less important occasions, use a different word. You do not want to teach your dog to ignore you when it's critical for him to pay attention.

    My Basenjis catch and kill wasps and have never got stung in doing so - their snap and release is too quick for them to get stung. However one did get stung on his foot when he trod on a dying bee. Often Basenjis get frightened of a particular thing when they sense their owner's fear. Are you afraid of wasps, Shelley?

    I don't have the flu but I am home from work today because I am going to get a shot in my foot to kill a nerve. I am nervous beyond words and Chase and Zahra have been cuddled up with me all morning which really has helped to keep me calm. I wonder if the podiatrist would mind them coming into the office with me for the shot? :D

    @spitfirekrl1: He doesn't seem to mind much he pretty much ignores it except when she pins him and he ends up on his back. Then he'll start snapping at her face which doesn't seem to steer her away from her objective (we have no idea what that is at this point). When she pins him she wants submission. She wants him to not struggle and nip and he should calm before she lets him go. Momma dogs do this to their puppies, it is part of puppy education. They do it most to the puppies that are the most pushy usually. In our last litter, Zeke always expected to get his way and he was the one who was pinned by both mom and Rio the most. He learned that by submitting he was allowed to go back to play. When he crossed the line, by playing too rough or invading the adults personal space he was pinned. He learned the limits to play and how to behave appropriately with adults from this. The other pups would get the same treatment but less because they didn't push those boundaries as much.
