Rugrat has trained Mom!!

Basenji Talk
  • That little rugrat Cairo has his mommy trained. He hasnt changed with the time change and wakes me up every morning at 5:30am. MOM I GOTTA PEE!!!!

So I stumble outside with him and back into the kennel to sleep an hour more. It is dark and Caesar is sleeping, why can't Cairo.

MOM I GOTTA DO THE OTHER THING NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I get up again and take him out. Back into the kennel.

I am snugged up in the bed all cozy and ready for my 30 more or an hour if I am bad sleep until the alarm goes off.

MOM I CANT STAY IN THIS KENNEL ANY MORE!!!! COME GET ME OR I WILL WAKE EVERYONE UP!!!

Cairo and Caesar proceed to snuggle with mom on the couch and sleep! This has happened the past 3 mornings.

Cairo is such a little punk!

  • But Cairo is SOOO cute, you just can't be mad!!! At least he's waking you up to go potty…. good boy!!!

  • LOL, silly boy. Tiggy stays in bed all night and will sleep in until I do

  • Deke sometimes sleeps through getting the kids off to school. Well he did. now we have the girls. They slept until I got up this am. Then they wake Deke up but thats ok I'm not complaining at least its no 5:30..it's 6:50!!!

  • The absolute worst thing about this time change (aside from the lessened amount of daylight walk time), is that Stormie and Nikki were so used to their dinner being served at 6:30 PM. Now they start pesting me at 5:00 PM for dinner and they put on those, "PLEASE MOM! We're STARVING and wasting away to practically NOTHING" eyes! Ha! Little rugrats is putting it nicely! :D ;)

@donc said in Agility training: Dogs also have different inclinations. That is probably going in my top ten of understatements for 2018. :) I had a Rottweiler from a long line of herding titles, all the siblings. His only goat at sheep herding was to mark my leg. Even handler friends tried... nope. Wasn't wasting his energy on stupid sheep. Dining room tables are their natural habitat!

It depends. I've never had to crate another breed forever, but my one basenji would get destructive if left alone.. the 2nd one would pee on my bed. So crating it was. However, I'm home so they were rarely crated. My current basenji is fine loose as long as she's alone. So like they said, do it slow, confine to an area that is safe and see how it works out. But if you need to keep crating, most dogs sleep far more than people.. up to 17 hrs a day. Just exercise before and lots after so they aren't bored.

@Nemo: Yep you can use a clicker for that too. I used a clicker to help me touch both of my dogs mouths, to brush their teeth, look at their teeth, touch their feet, hold their head, etc. when needed. I'll give it a try - maybe I can find a different clicker, one with a softer pop. It's funny sometimes how the cookie crumbles - I can't show Trinity, yet she's the one who lets me get right in her face, in her mouth, stands still when I want to inspect her…:p

I have been taking Mica to a "rally-1" obedience training at the novice level. This involves doing sit, down, 360/270/turns, left turn, right turn, walk slow, walk normal or fast, weave inbetween cones, and she likes it as a challenge to do things alot of it is at the "heeling" side and than there is front and around the back to the side, too - But I think she will be going to an agility class someday - she likes to balance on and walk for 10-12 feet on logs in the water by the swamp, and also across the dried river beds in the woods, and run through the culvert at the dog park. She has also jumped through a hoop at the dog park. It seems to challenge her. She likes to be kept active. BaMicas mom
