Training him or me?

    So, I had a good training session with devil dog last night! trying to teach him to sit while we eat so he doesn't snatch food off our plates…. I had him sit on a blanket while I ate dinner. He?d get up and I?d make him sit back down on it. kept it up for about ? hour. He did pretty good. i'd give him a treat when he'd sit back down or stay for a while. He?d go back on command ?.not make me put him there.

    He proceeded to pee on the blanket an hour later??not sure if that was a pointed message but I?m thinking it was. Basenji?s are interesting creatures.

    LOL, 22 yrs ago they had these things you put over your toilet to teach a cat to use the toilet. So I got one, locked the cats in the bathroom for several days til they got it. Opened the door, the Maine Coon walked out past me, jumped on my bed and POOPED IN THE MIDDLE OF IT.

    Yeah, message for sure.

    If you use a squirt bottle, you will only have to spray the b a few times before they get the message…at least, that works in my house.

    Isis is darling! By all means do a 'well baby' visit with your vet, and order the DNA swab for fanconi, huge peace of mind. I had a wonderful Isis many years ago, I love the name!

    I have read such horror stories about dogs who fly in the below cabin because they are too big to go under the seat - my smallest weighs 20.8 pounds, and would never settle for one of those Sherpa bags - they look very useful for smaller dogs though. If the time comes I have a long way to travel, we will drive it.

    I have been taking Mica to a "rally-1" obedience training at the novice level. This involves doing sit, down, 360/270/turns, left turn, right turn, walk slow, walk normal or fast, weave inbetween cones, and she likes it as a challenge to do things alot of it is at the "heeling" side and than there is front and around the back to the side, too - But I think she will be going to an agility class someday - she likes to balance on and walk for 10-12 feet on logs in the water by the swamp, and also across the dried river beds in the woods, and run through the culvert at the dog park. She has also jumped through a hoop at the dog park. It seems to challenge her. She likes to be kept active. BaMicas mom

    Basenjis have desires, we have desires to get to work on time. You can feed your b twice a day and do a poop right after they eat. That will help. When it is raining or cold I just throw on my slicker and accept that I will be getting as wet as my B. You may want to try Muttlucks which are great waterproof shoes made for dogs in the water or snow.
