    So, I had a good training session with devil dog last night! trying to teach him to sit while we eat so he doesn't snatch food off our plates…. I had him sit on a blanket while I ate dinner. He?d get up and I?d make him sit back down on it. kept it up for about ? hour. He did pretty good. i'd give him a treat when he'd sit back down or stay for a while. He?d go back on command ?.not make me put him there.

    He proceeded to pee on the blanket an hour later??not sure if that was a pointed message but I?m thinking it was. Basenji?s are interesting creatures.

    LOL, 22 yrs ago they had these things you put over your toilet to teach a cat to use the toilet. So I got one, locked the cats in the bathroom for several days til they got it. Opened the door, the Maine Coon walked out past me, jumped on my bed and POOPED IN THE MIDDLE OF IT.

    Yeah, message for sure.

    If you use a squirt bottle, you will only have to spray the b a few times before they get the message…at least, that works in my house.

That is probably going in my top ten of understatements for 2018. :) I had a Rottweiler from a long line of herding titles, all the siblings. His only goat at sheep herding was to mark my leg. Even handler friends tried... nope. Wasn't wasting his energy on stupid sheep. Dining room tables are their natural habitat!

    It depends. I've never had to crate another breed forever, but my one basenji would get destructive if left alone.. the 2nd one would pee on my bed. So crating it was. However, I'm home so they were rarely crated. My current basenji is fine loose as long as she's alone. So like they said, do it slow, confine to an area that is safe and see how it works out. But if you need to keep crating, most dogs sleep far more than people.. up to 17 hrs a day. Just exercise before and lots after so they aren't bored.

    Well.. tonight we had a 30 min. training to practice the weave poles. Tillo did ok. He was more excited than normal when we got out of the car and he had a big ridge when we walked to the field, but we were there 30 min before we started, so he was all calmed down at the beginning of the training :) I asked the trainer what he is going to do with Tillo and the Shar pei and he isn't sure yet.. :confused: This wednesday he will have a look and discuss it with the other trainers. He said that there is always a possibility that Tillo will be in a group with a male he doesn't like… so he doesn't think it's necessary to change the group. I told him I will quit and look for another training if he doesn't change something.. We'll see.. we'll see...

    @BDawg: If anyone wants to train my sled dog to do this…!! :) Miles thinks he's pulling a team when we go for a walk!! That is amazing!! Makes me want to get a clicker. Maybe you should get one of these to have the "reel fun". [image: D_gg14_Memo_1.jpg] Regards, Esther

    Basenjis have desires, we have desires to get to work on time. You can feed your b twice a day and do a poop right after they eat. That will help. When it is raining or cold I just throw on my slicker and accept that I will be getting as wet as my B. You may want to try Muttlucks which are great waterproof shoes made for dogs in the water or snow.
