Basenji Wanted in Indiana!

Basenjis For Sale or Wanted
  • Hi everyone,
My family and I are looking to adopt a 1-year old Basenji or older within Indiana or a surrounding state. We have three kids but they are kind to animals, (ages 7,6 and 4.) If you know of a Basenji in need of a loving home, but able to live with kids, please let me know. (We have no other pets.) We are registered with BRAT and thus waiting, but I'm exploring my options since I don't know if/when that will happen.
    Thanks,
    Paula

  • Welcome and hope everything works out with BRAT….

  • Welcome to the forums!

Contact the Basenji Club of Southeastern Wisconsin: www.bcosw.org
They rescue basenjis. That is where I got my little girl Daisy.

    Good luck!

@markw cast you net far. We lived in Hawaii and found our love in New Zealand. Cost was $2,000 including air fare. He was well worth it. morse.stafford@gmail.com

The only place I know in the UK that actually requests copies of health certificates from breeders is www.champdogs.co.uk I am sure if there are other sites and or places someone will be quick to correct me, but this is the only one I know. Hope that helps.

Where are you located? There are actually a lot of options. Sadly, as of late, not a lot of basenjis being posted to BRAT. There are other rescues, including a great rescue for basenjis in Florida and California. Also, if you can't find a suitable rescue, please consider young and adults from breeders that they have decided don't fit their breeding plan. They also need and make great pets.

There are breeders in OH that would be listed on the BCOA website. If you are getting a dog from a breeder make sure the dog and/or the parents are health tested. I am sorry to hear about your boy passing from Diabetes. I have heard about a couple of Bs being diagnosed with Diabetes and not with Fanconi Syndrome lately! Jennifer

I think that many adopters would pay for the cost. And add to that if it is a situation that a person has contacted BRAT to give up the dog and he/she is not tested then they should be required to put up that fee. I think that BRAT does an excellent job in most respects, however this is one point that I really disagree with not testing. I am not sure that they would agree to test even if people covered the cost

It isn't that they are necessarily outside dogs…they are just incredibly "barky" dogs so they get sent outside a lot. Any and ever time anyone is out in our backyard, their dog barks and barks and bark for-ev-er until we go inside. Those dogs may drive us crazy, but they are still animals and we still feel bad for them :(
