Homeopathy for Basenjis?

Basenji Health Issues & Questions
  • Ziggy is still battling sinus/nasal drop and reverse sneezing. I'm thinking of trying a homeopathic treatment for the sinusitis and nasal drip. Has anyone here used homeopathy for their B? What did you use, and how well did it work? Thanks much. :-) ~ Lori ~

While I have not used one, I know many people that have and they are quite good, main thing is ask for references.. and you can seach on line for one in your area….

  • I have to say–I'm very conservative when it comes to health care (both mine and my dogs....). I would go the regular vet route first. As a matter of fact, when my regualr vet couldn't solve Tyler and Zoey's skin problems, I took them to a dermatologist--he's supposed to be the best in the Bay Area. He actually did a skin biopsy on both of them, and they are finally on the right meds and getting better every day.

We have some excellent Homopathic Vets in the Bay area… and you will find that most of them are both regular Medical Vets..... but yes, I would always try my regular Vet (but of course mine is quick to suggest a referral if needed) and yes there are some great dermatologist in this area too...

  • Yes–I forgot that there are actually homeopathic vets available. We are so lucky here in the Bay Area--we have great vets, specialists and also UC Davis veterinary school/drs not too far away--and believe me--I have used all of these resources over the past 18 years.....

I agree with Buddys Pal… if they didn't do either urinalysis or xray, I'd get them done. If you have a sick dog and the vet just sort of says "oh well, blood work looks okay".. may be time for a new vet. Something is obviously wrong.

My first girl got carsick. I used Dramamine (Gravol) for her. Luckily she outgrew the problem, because every time I had to pill her the neighbours thought I was killing her. She screamed her head off! (and of course spit out the pill). She did best riding loose in the back seat. That was in the '60s, and we didn't worry about such things…...

It's most likely a yeast infection. They get it in the ears quite often. Buddy has a yeast infection right now on his stomach.

@ibi_n_sane: the ears of the basenji of the pictures you show look like their is really something wrong, but it is not right to think that a basenji with a bit thin fur on his ears also has a condition/ disease that causes this. Of course, this dog is diagnosed with pattern baldness. And no, you can't say that every basenji/dog with less fur on the ears has this condition. Like Tanza said: it could be flies, or maybe cold, malnutrition.. I do think that Tillo's bald blackish ear rims are more than just 'loosing hair because it's winter/spring/summer..' And I would love to know what's causing it. That's why I wanted to ask it at the University and that's why I was suprised to see the B-ears on the screen and to hear about this 'pattern baldness' :)

Joey sneezes a lot, but I don't think he has allergies. I think it is all the dust in our house. I hate to clean!! :D
