Potty on bed and couch,,,,grrrrrrr

Behavioral Issues
  • Thanks so much! All of your comments are very reassuring and helpful. BTY,,,,,,in another week and a half I will be returning to school (I am a teacher). This will be a major change in schedules for Dane and Bella. Do any of you have any advice for how to make this transition easier?

  • long walks in the am and pm

  • LUVSMY2B'S, our beagle has peed on our bed. Luckily, not in my spot  Anyway, she does not have access to the bedrooms unless we are in them. If we want to leave the door open for whatever reason we put a tarp on the bed to scare her when she jumps up. This works as well for her. Dash just crawls underneath to sleep.

You could slowly increase the amount of time you are away and they are alone in their crates. We keep our dogs together when we are gone for company as well. Since she is new I am not sure how commfortable you would be with that.

I am not sure how helpful that was but anyway…good luck!

  • Chance did this a couple of times too but it was either because he was upset with me or too excited while playing and just couldn't hold it anymore.

  • One of our males marked the wife! Yep, peed right on her…...you belong to me.:D
Never had one poop on the bed, but pee marking has happened.:(

Uh…yeah...that has happened to me...once...just once...the production I put on convinced Querk that he never, EVER wanted to do that again. In his defense he was unbelievably excited upon arrival at a new agility class, around a bunch of new dogs, and it was the peak of THE breeding season...we call it temporary insanity.

  • We take her and Dane out to pee right before they go to bed sometimes she goes and sometimes she doesnt (she can hold her pee a lot longer than Dane can)

I make sure mine pees befores she's in for the night She has no choice, as long as it takes. No exceptions. I don't give them a choice - in that we either keep walking (on walk) or she can't go in till she pees. Usually trhe walk always works, due to they can't help marking their turf!

Funny about peeing on people, we went on a long car ride to visit my wife's sister. I got the dogs out and greated my sisdter in law before letting the dogsd go potty, and of coarse first thing the male does is pee on her!

Um…Andrea, can you describe said "production"...I need the laugh!:p ;)

He,he…well, let's just say it involved some yelling, and some cursing...and I may have grabbed his scruff......then I am sure I had serious discussion with him, while holding his leetle head in my hands, that if he EVER did that again, he would be a skin hanging on the wall in our family room ;)

Ha ha, that's great.:D What a wonderflu visual picture that conjures up! :D

  • You are _too _funny, Andrea! The image of that has just made me smile and laugh - thanks for making my day!!

A UTI IMO would be the best case scenario, some antibiotics and bam situation resolved. Changing behaviour is a hard thing to do, it takes time and effort. Having your animal checked for medical issues first is what ANY good behaviourist would suggest when there is a signifigant change in the animal. It makes sense. BTW drinking a lot of water would also make me recommend going to the vet first.

Thanks for the advice foschatt! As I mentioned, my family went out of town for two weeks to Sweden. While they were away Dallas continues to sleep in my room while the other two dogs slept in my parent's room. Dallas' behavior greatly diminished during the two weeks. The first 3 mornings or so he would whine & pace. However, as he realized that the other dogs were not being fed until I got up either, he started sleeping in more. I really do think he wakes up & wants out when he hears my step dad getting up for work. My stepdad feeds the other two dogs [we tried having him not feed Dallas] around 5 AM when he is getting ready for work. Therefore, it is someone being up that has been causing him to wake up & whine to be let out. There is still a chance I may start putting him back in his crate to sleep. Problem is, he is kept crated during the day so I don't really find it fair for him to do both. I'm still working on it I suppose… He's gotten better but now that they are back in town he has already begun to regress. sigh Around 2 AM my stepdad let our family dogs out & in the process Dallas woke up & basically wouldn't go back to bed afterwards. I let him outside to pee for like 15 minutes. However, when we came back into the house he kept whining & pacing again. He didn't end up finally falling back asleep until after 3 AM! I am quite tired this AM I must say...

the first night i had tayda she slept on the bed with me. i got up in the morning and got in the shower and closed the door to the bathroom. came out and she had peed on my bed. guess she was not happy i left her in the room. from then on she came in the bathroom and laid on the rug while i showered. now lenny and tayda both wait patiently on the bathroom rug while i shower now.

Jack does that when he is sunbathing. He finds the biggest patch of sun he can find, and lays down crossways with his legs poking straight out and his head thrown back. He also likes to sleep with his head propped up on something, like a pillow….or my legs!
