Looking for an adult Basenji

Basenjis For Sale or Wanted
  • I'm looking for a mellow tempered adult Basenji to be a companion to a 1 1/2 year old neutered male Basenji. (Not for me but instead for a family that I placed this male with.) The family has had some very bad experiences with rescues in the past and they are not interested in another dog with health or behavior problems. They are also not interested in a puppy. Breeders, if you have a good natured adult Basenji that you would like to find a good home for at a very reasonable price, let me know and I can put you in touch with this family. They are located in north Georgia near Chattanooga, TN.

  • How about an almost 1-1/2 yr old black/white B-mix? Nahhh - I can't do it . . . sorry - forget it !??

I just found out about Tucson last week nd this week we have company from out of town otherwise we would have gone. I will be checking with the two breeders I've found in the Scottsdale/Phoenix area. I'll keep looking for a rescue. Thx

Also, check with Camp Basenji. Although she's in FL, she has homes up north and is willing to transport to the right home. Contact her because she doesn't list most dogs on the site. http://www.campbasenji.org/

Glad you got your dog! I looked for a thread on her but didn't see it. Please be sure to get her Fanconi tested (NOT the strip tests, but the actual Fanconi DNA test) as soon as possible if she is not already tested. BRAT strip tests but does not DNA and sometimes people get confused and think a clear strop means no Fanconi. Only by doing the DNA will you know.

My gut feeling is if you can't find a dog who is utterly good with cats already, your best and safest bet is a puppy. I suggest you get on a couple of breeder's list and wait for the perfect pup for your house.

If funds are an issues, you can do what I used to do before BRAT came along. Find out the vet of the family your placing him with, have the family pay you for your expenses and then take the dog to the new familys vet for the surgery to be fixed. Drop the dog off the day of the surgery and then new owners pu the dog. They get to pay the bill. That makes sure the dog is fixed, sets up a new vet record for the new dog in the family, and you don't have to pay anything out of pocket. Mostly, you know the surgery WILL BE DONE. Thanks for making sure he is fixed before rehoming. That is so important.
