Lukuru Pups

Basenji Talk
  • This weekend Ernie and I went to CarolAnn Worshams home to see her new Lukuru pups. They were absolutely adorable. she has some pics on her website but they were sweet as pie. The pics of them in Africa were so sad and hard to believe they were the same dogs. The father of the one was a Mahogony Tri which I have never seen before. Very cool dog. It is neat to see how the dogs from Africa look so similar to our B's here. Anyway, just had to share. I think she has some pics on her website. www.hicotn.com if anyone wants to see them.

  • What an awesome website, thanks for sharing! I really like the way that she describes Basenji's to someone without scaring them but informing them.

    Her B's are beautiful.

  • I am new in the basenji world and I have been looking for a puppy. I talked to CarolAnn a few days ago. What a wonderful woman she is. She took the time to talk with me make sure that I wanted another puppy, and said that she would help me find the puppy that was right for my family. It is always nice to talk to a person like they have known you all of your life. So if you read this CarolAnn thanks for everything. Over the last week or so I have talked to a few breeders and she comes highly recomended. I can't wait to see her dogs.

  • CarolAnn is the best.
    So are her dogs.
If your lucky enough to get one of these wonderful "critters" your very lucky indeed.

  • I hope to. Her dogs are beautiful. After talking to her for an hour or so I could tell that she cares for her dogs. I can't wait to meet her or her dogs. If I would have known that she was who she was when I was talking to her (dogs in book, knows way more than me.) i would have never been able to talk to her the way that I did. I must thank her for that. Anyway, she is a wonderful person. I hope that someday I could know half as much as she does.

@jalex said in New pup!: @senjisilly i read in quite a few different places that looking at their teeth is an issue. She wont let me do anything actually but she does let me hold her. Its been a rough week. As with any dog/breed you need to be sure theyre a fit for your family and so far if she is a B I'm struggling to believe itll work out but we're trying! I appreciate the input and guidance, thank you! She's a puppy. Her behaviors are puppy behavior... period. Puppies bite, they do what they can get away with. She is darling, she definitely looks very basenji. But if you really have doubts, contact basenji rescue and let them find her a home while she's still a puppy. Frankly, I suspect you are letting BASENJI close your vision. They have quirks, but overall no better or worse than most breeds. All dogs take patience and that you be at least as persistent as they are. At her age, she doesn't get the option of "won't allow me to do anything." Without yelling, hitting or rough behavior, you really can turn it all around. Right now is the time she must learn you can check her teeth, look between her toes, check her ears, etc. At some point in life, it may be critical, so training her NOW is important. But it can also be relationship building and fun. :) Mary has one of the easiest to follow sites. You just start working on training so that she comes to see you as the one to guide her. To entertain her by helping her use her brain. It will be okay. :) Training on left, issues on right: http://www.clickerlessons.com/index.htm You have a world of help here, you can do this. :)

@Janneke: I really like Malaika and Freya. You can always shorten Malaika to Laika ;) I like Malaika too (I just love african names :D ), Mali for short :)

Hey, I've just discovered what a 'snugglepuppy' thingy is. We found a cuddly teddy in a charity shop years ago which had a ticking clocks as it's tummy. We bought it for our puppy coming home and it worked wonders. Have used it with puppies ever since. :)

Whenever we love on Sahara with hugging, kissing her sweet face, cuddling, she will immediately get up and shake it off. It is so funny, it's like she is saying I love you guys but please I am only a Basenji, not your baby. Maybe she understand when we call her, Our Baby Girl, hehe!!!!!:D

Cory and Jayden have foam inside a pillowcase on the bottom of their crates. On top of that are dog crate beds that are wrapped in old babycrib sheets. They each have two little baby receiving blankets in the beds so they have something to "rough up" for when they make their beds comfortable at night. Sometimes Jayden gets too enthusiastic and gets all the cushions etc all bunched up in a big mound in his crate and he can't lay down. I have to remove him and completely remake the bed before he can go back in to sleep. Sometimes before he goes in his crate to sleep, he'll stand up and remove Cory's baby blankets from her crate (on top of his)….......just to irritate her at bedtime. And it does irritate her! Pat
